Cruise Control Switch Test

  1. Turn ignition on. Place cruise control switch in "OFF" position. Measure voltage at control module by probing connector pin "A" (circuit 397) and connecting other end of voltmeter to a good known Ground. If 12 volts are present, go to step 2). If voltage is zero, go to step 3).
  2. Disconnect cruise control switch connector (C235) and measure voltage at terminal "A" on harness side of connector and Ground. If voltage is zero, find open in circuit 39 or blown fuse. Repair or replace as required. If 12 volts are present, replace switch. End of test.
  3. Place cruise control switch in "ON" position. Measure voltage at control module by probing connector pin "A" (circuit 397) and connecting other end of voltmeter to a known good Ground. If 12 volts are present, switch is okay.
  4. If voltage is zero, disconnect connector and measure voltage at terminal "B" on switch side of connector and Ground. If 12 volts are present, find open in circuit 397 between terminal "B" of connector (C235) and pin "A" of control module. Repair and replace as required.
  5. If voltage is zero, measure voltage at terminal "A" on harness side of connector and Ground. If 12 volts are present, replace switch. If voltage is zero, check fuse.
  6. If fuse is okay, check wiring between fuse and switch. If fuse is blown, replace fuse. If fuse blows, check all branches of circuit 39 and find short. Repair as required. If fuse does not blow, road test vehicle.
