Visual Inspection

- Ensure connections on both batteries are tight and not corroded. Ensure Powertrain Control Module (PCM) 60-pin connector is fully engaged and mounting screw is tight. Check for pushed-out connectors and bent terminals. PCM is located in right rear corner of engine compartment.
- Ensure electrical connections on intake manifold air heater relays are tight and not corroded. Intake manifold air heater relays are mounted on inner wheelwell, under left side battery. See Fig 1 .
- Check for loose or defective electrical connections on starter motor and starter solenoid. Ensure electrical connections are free of corrosion and installed on intake manifold air temperature sensor. Ensure wiring is okay. Intake manifold air temperature sensor is located on top of intake manifold. See Fig 2 .
- Check for loose or defective electrical connection on engine speed sensor, also called Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor. CKP sensor is located at front of engine, above vibration damper. Ensure Water-In-Fuel (WIF) sensor electrical connector is free of corrosion and tight. WIF sensor is located in bottom of fuel filter/water separator, above water drain valve. See Fig 3 .
- Ensure electrical connection is free of corrosion and installed on fuel shutdown solenoid on fuel injection pump. See Fig 3 .
- Check electrical connections on intake manifold air heater for tightness and corrosion. Intake manifold air heater is a grid heater installed between air inlet housing and intake manifold.
- Check throttle linkage and accelerator linkage for binding. Check for a stretched or disconnected throttle return spring. Check all fuel supply and return lines for leaking. Ensure all ground connections are tight and free of corrosion.
- Check Filter Minder, located on air filter housing. DO NOT remove air filter for inspection. Air filter does not require replacement until Filter Minder Yellow disc has reached Red zone. See Fig 4 . Filter Minder Yellow disc may reach Red zone if air intake is restricted or air filter has gotten wet during heavy rain or snow. If air filter has gotten wet, allow it to dry during normal engine operation and reset Filter Minder.
- Ensure intercooler inlet and outlet duct clamps are tight. See Fig 5 . Ensure vacuum pump-to-power brake booster hose is connected and not damaged. Ensure accessory drive belt is not damaged or slipping.
- On automatic transmission models, ensure transmission temperature sensor and overdrive solenoid are firmly connected and free of corrosion.
