Rear Window Release Does Not Operate

  1. Disconnect release switch connector. Connect test light between Orange wire at switch connector and ground. If test light glows, go to next step. If test light does not glow, repair open in Orange wire between connector and fuse block.
  2. Connect test light between Orange wire at rear window release relay connector and ground. If test light glows, go to next step. If test light does not glow, repair open in Orange wire between relay connector and wiring splice.
  3. Connect test light between Brown wire at release switch connector and ground. If test light glows, go to next step. If test light does not glow, replace release switch.
  4. Connect test light between Brown wire at rear window release relay connector and ground. If test light glows, go to next step. If test light does not glow, repair open in Brown wire between relay and switch connectors.
  5. Connect test light between Brown and Orange/Black wire (auto. trans) or Tan/White wire (man. trans.) at release relay connector. If test light glows, go to next step. If test light does not glow, on man. trans. repair open in Tan/White wire between relay connector and parking brake switch connector. If wire is okay, adjust parking brake switch. On auto. trans., repair open in Orange/Black wire between relay connector and ground connections at top front of engine. If wiring is okay, check adjustment of park/neutral position switch.
  6. Apply parking brake on man. trans. models, or place transmission in Park on auto. trans. models. Connect test light between Dark Green wire at release solenoid connector and ground. If test light glows, go to next step. If test light does not glow, repair open in Dark Green wire between solenoid connector and relay connector.
  7. Connect test light between Dark Green wire and Black wire at release solenoid connector. If test light glows, replace release solenoid. If test does not glow, repair open in Black wire between solenoid connector and ground.
