Oil Replacement

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Place a drain pan or suitable container under the transfer case.

  4. Remove the transfer case oil level/filler plug (2) from the transfer case.
  5. Remove the transfer case drain plug (1) from the transfer case and drain the transfer case oil.
  6. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  7. Place the transfer case drain plug into the transfer case.

    Tighten:  Tighten the transfer case drain plug to 49 N.m (36 lb ft).

  8. Add approximately 0.8 liters (0.85 qts) of 80W-90 GL5 lubricant or equivalent, into the oil level/filler plug hole. The oil level should be even with the bottom of the oil level/filler plug hole.
  9. Place the transfer case oil level/filler plug (2) into the transfer case.

    Tighten:  Tighten the case oil level/filler plug to 49 N.m (36 lb ft).

  10. Lower the vehicle.
