Removal Procedure
- Remove the door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Side Front Door .
- Disconnect the electrical connectors as needed.
- Remove the rubber conduit from the door and the body hinge pillar.
- Apply cloth-backed tape to the door and the body hinge pillar in order to protect the door and the body hinge pillar from scratches.
- Use the J 36604 in order to remove the door hinge spring. See Special Tools .
- Remove the hinge pin retainers from the hinge pins.
Discard the hinge pin retainers.
- Use a soft-faced hammer and locking pliers in order to remove the lower hinge pins.
- Temporarily install a bolt through the lower hinge in order to hold the door in place.
- Remove the upper hinge pin.
- Remove the temporary bolt from the lower hinge.
- Remove the door from the vehicle.
- Remove and discard the door hinge pin bushings.
CAUTION:
Before removing the spring, cover the spring with a towel to prevent the spring from flying and possibly causing damage or personal injury.
