Repair Procedures: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:
  • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  • To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
  • When handling a metal gasket, take care not to fold the gasket or damage the contact surface of the gasket.

Information 

  1. Remove the engine and transmission assembly.

    (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY ")

  2. Remove the automatic Transmission from the engine assembly.

    (Refer to Automatic Transmission System - "AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ")

  3. Remove the drive plate.

    (Refer to Cylinder Block - "DRIVE PLATE ")

  4. Install the engine assembly to engine stand for disassembly.
  5. Remove the LH/RH timing chain upper covers.

    (Refer to Timing System - "TIMING CHAIN COVER ")

  6. Set No. 1 cylinder to TDC (Top Dead Center) on compression stroke.
    1. Turn the crankshaft damper pulley and align its groove with the timing mark of the timing chain lower cover.

    2. Check that the TDC marks of the intake and exhaust CVVT sprockets are in straight line on the cylinder head surface as displayed in the image.

      If not, turn the crankshaft by one revolution (360°) more.

  7. Remove the LH/RH cam to cam guides (A).

  8. Remove the LH/RH timing chain tensioners (A) and chain guide fixing bolts (B).

  9. Remove the LH/RH CVVT & camshafts.

    (Refer to Cylinder Head Assembly - "CVVT & CAMSHAFT ")

  10. Remove the LH/RH cylinder heads.

    (Refer to Cylinder Head Assembly - "CYLINDER HEAD ")

  11. Remove the timing chain lower cover.

    (Refer to Timing System - "TIMING CHAIN COVER ")

  12. Remove the RH timing chain tensioner arm (A).

  16. Insert a set pin after compressing the oil pump chain tensioner (A) and then remove the tensioner.

  17. Remove the oil pump sprocket (A) and the chain (B).
