Repair Procedures: Removal
- Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels are placed in the straight ahead position.CAUTION:
- If the steering wheel and the front tires are not set straight ahead together, it may affect the number of circulation of steering wheel and damage the cable inside the clock spring.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the battery negative (-) cable.WARNING:
- Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery and then wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Remove the driver airbag module (DAB).
(Refer to Restraint - "DRIVER AIRBAG (DAB) MODULE AND CLOCK SPRING ")
- Remove the steering wheel.
(Refer to Steering System - "REPAIR PROCEDURES ")
- Remove the clock spring.
(Refer to Restraint - "DRIVER AIRBAG (DAB) MODULE AND CLOCK SPRING ")
- Remove the steering column shroud upper panel.
(Refer to Body - "STEERING COLUMN SHROUD PANEL ")
- Remove the crash pad lower panel.
(Refer to Body - "CRASH PAD LOWER PANEL ")
- Remove the knee airbag.
(Refer to Restraint - "KNEE AIRBAG (KAB) ")
- Remove the steering column module.
(Refer to Steering System - "STEERING COLUMN MODULE (SCM) ")
- Remove the wiring clip (A).
- Disconnect the tilt & telescopic connector (A).
- Remove the wiring clip (A).
- Loosen the bolt (A) and then separate the universal joint from the steering column and shaft.
Tightening torque:
32.4 - 37.3 N.m (3.3 - 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 - 27.5 lb-ft)
NOTE:- Keep the steering wheel in a neutral position. Moving the steering wheel may damage the cable inside the clock spring.
- Tighten the steering column bolts in the same direction as they were removed.
- Do not reuse the universal joint bolt when installing.
- Loosen the steering column dust cover nut (A).
Tightening torque:
12.7 - 17.7 N.m (1.3 - 1.8 kgf.m, 9.4 - 13.0 lb-ft)
- Remove the steering column and shaft by loosening the mounting nuts (A) and bolt (B).
Tightening torque
(A) : 25.0 - 29.4 N.m (2.5 - 3.0 kgf.m, 14.5 - 21.7 lb-ft)
(B): 53.9 - 58.8 N.m (5.5 - 6.0 kgf.m, 39.8 - 43.4 lb-ft)
