Repair Procedures: Installation
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Install the new O-rings (A).NOTE:
- Do not reuse the O-ring.
- Install the timing chain cover.
- Make sure to remove the hardening sealant, foreign materials, oil, dust and moisture gathered in the liquid gasket sealing surface (cam carrier, cylinder head, cylinder block, lower crankcase). Then, spray the cleaner on the sealing surface and wipe off with a clean towel.
- Firstly, apply liquid gasket sealant on the interface of T-joint (Cam carrier/cylinder head, cylinder head/cylinder block, cylinder block/lower crankcase, lower crankcase/upper oil pan).
Sealant : MS 721-40 AA or AA0
- The part must be assembled within 5 minutes after sealant was applied on the mounting surface of liquid gasket of timing chain cover.
Sealant application line : 1 mm (0.0394 in.) away from the end of the chamfer inside the flange.
Bead width : Ø4.0 mm (0.16 in.)
Sealant : MS 721-40 AA or AA0
NOTE:- Fill * areas with sealant.
- The dowel pins on the cylinder block and holes on the timing chain cover should be used as a reference in order to assemble the timing chain cover (A) to be in exact position.
Tightening torque: B: 9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb-ft)
Except B bolts: 18.6 - 21.6 N.m (1.9 - 2.2 kgf.m, 13.7 - 15.9 lb-ft)
NOTE:- The engine starting or pressure tests should not be performed within 30 minutes after the timing chain cover was assembled.
- When installing the timing chain cover, install the water pump mounting bolts (A).
Tightening torque: 18.6 - 21.6 N.m (1.9 - 2.2 kgf.m, 13.7 - 15.9 lb.ft)
- Do not disassemble and reassemble the timing chain cover as it is supplied with water pump.
- Replace the front oil seal if neccesary.
(Refer to Timing System - "FRONT OIL SEAL ")
- Install the intake and exhaust variable force solenoid valve (VFS) (A).
Tightening torque: 9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb-ft)

NOTE:- Do not reuse the variable force solenoid valve (VFS) if it is dropped.
- When installing the variable force Solenoid valve (VFS), pay attention to the following points.
- After replacing the variable force Solenoid valve (VSF) O-ring with a new one, apply engine oil to the new O-ring.
- Push the variable force solenoid valve (VFS) to the end of the timing chain cover mounting surface, and then pre-tighten the bolts.
- Tighten the variable force solenoid valve (VFS) with specified torque.
- Install the other parts reverse order of removal.
- Fill the engine oil.
(Refer to Lubrication System - "ENGINE OIL ")
- Fill the engine coolant.
(Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")
NOTE:- The engine coolant must be injected according to the integrated thermal management module (ITM) coolant filling method.
- Fill the water cooled intercooler coolant.
(Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")
NOTE:- The water cooled intercooler coolant must be injected according to the electric water pump (EWP) coolant filling method.
