Repair Procedures: Removal

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Remove the engine and transmission assembly. (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY ")
  3. Remove the transfer case.
    1. Disconnect the AWD ECU connector (A).
    2. Separate the wiring bracket (B) after loosening the mounting bolts.

    3. Loosen the transfer case upper mounting bolts (A).

    4. Remove the transfer case after loosening the lower mounting bolts (B).

  4. Remove the front propeller shaft.
    1. Loosen the front propeller shaft mounting bolts (A).

      Tightening torque: 

      49.0 - 68.6 N.m (5.0 - 7.0 kgf.m, 36.2 - 50.6 lb-ft)

    2. Remove the front propeller shaft (A).

    3. Loosen the transfer case upper mounting bolts (A).

    4. Remove the transfer case after loosening the lower mounting bolts (B).

  5. Remove the TM transmission bracket (A) after loosening the mounting bolts. [For 2WD specification] 

    Tightening torque: 

    34.3 - 46.1 N.m (3.5 - 4.7 kgf.m, 25.3 - 34.0 lb-ft)

  6. Disconnect the below component.
    1. Main connector
    2. Parking release actuator connector
    3. Parking switch connector
    4. Electric oil pump (EOP) connector
    5. Ground line
    6. Wiring bracket
    7. Crankshaft position sensor (CKPS) connector

  7. Separate the AFT feed tube bracket (A, B) after loosening the mounting bolts.

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 19.6 - 25.5 N.m (2.0 - 2.6 kgf.m, 14.5 - 18.8 lb-ft)
    2. 7.8 - 11.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.2 kgf.m, 5.8 - 8.7 lb-ft)

  8. Remove the Warmer Catalyst Convertor (WCC) [RH].
    1. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (A).
    2. Remove the clamp (B).
    3. Remove the Warmer Catalyst Convertor (WCC) (C) after loosening the mounting bolt.

  9. Remove the dust cover (A) after loosening the mounting bolt.

  10. Remove the inter cooler bracket (A) after loosening the mounting bolts.

  11. Rotate the crank shaft and loosen the torque converter mounting bolts (B) by using tool (A).

  12. Remove the Warmer Catalyst Convertor (WCC) [LH].
    1. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (A).
    2. Remove the clamp (B).
    3. Remove the Warmer Catalyst Convertor (WCC) (C) after loosening the mounting bolt.

  13. Separate the wiring bracket (A) after loosening the mounting bolts.

  14. Loosen the engine bracket mounting nut (A).

  15. Remove the engine bracket.
    1. Lift the engine and transmission using a jack.
    2. Remove the engine bracket (A) after loosening the mounting bolts.

  16. Loosen the auto transmission mounting bolts (A) and starter motor mounting bolts (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 42.2 - 53.9 N.m (4.3 - 5.5 kgf.m, 31.1 - 39.8 lb-ft)
    2. 49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb-ft)

  17. Remove the transmission (C) after loosening the auto transmission mounting bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 42.2 - 53.9 N.m (4.3 - 5.5 kgf.m, 31.1 - 39.8 lb-ft)
    2. 39.2 - 46.1 N.m (4.0 - 4.7 kgf.m, 28.9 - 34.0 lb-ft)

  18. Remove the transmission by slowly lowering the jack.
    NOTE:
    • Be careful not to damage other nearby wiring or parts when removing the transmission assembly.
