Removal And Installation

  1. Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.
  2. Remove the front wheel and tire (A) from the front hub.

    Tightening torque: 

    107.9 - 127.5 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Be careful not to damage the hub bolts when removing the front wheel and tire.
  3. Loosen the driveshaft caulking nut (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    294.2 - 313.8 N.m (30.0 - 32.0 kgf.m, 217.0 - 231.5 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • The front hub lock nut should be replaced with new ones.
    • After installation lock nut, stake the lock nut using a chisel and hammer as shown in the figure below.

      Caulking depth:  1.5 mm (0.591 in.)

  4. Remove the brake caliper assembly.

    (Refer to Brake System - "FRONT DISC BRAKE ")

  5. Remove the wheel speed sensor (A) and wheel speed sensor cable bracket (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    6.9 - 10.8 N.m (0.7 - 1.1 kgf.m, 5.1 - 8.0 lb-ft)

  6. Remove the brake hose mounting bracket from the knuckle.

    Tightening torque: 

    6.9 - 10.8 N.m (0.7 - 1.1 kgf.m, 5.1 - 8.0 lb-ft)

  7. Remove the tie rod end ball joint from the knuckle.
    1. Remove the split pin (A).
    2. Remove the castle nut (B) and washer (C).
    3. Disconnect the ball joint from knuckle using the special tool (09568-2J100).

      Tightening torque: 

      88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)

  8. Using the special tool (09568-2J100), remove the lateral arm from the knuckle.
    1. Remove the split pin (A).
    2. Remove the castle nut (B) and washer (C).
    3. Remove the lateral arm from knuckle using the special tool (09568-2J100).

      Tightening torque: 

      88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)

  9. Using the special tool (09568-2J100), remove the compression arm from the knuckle.

    Tightening torque: 

    88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)

    1. Remove the split pin (A).
    2. Remove the castle nut (B) and washer (C).
    3. Remove the compression arm from knuckle using the special tool (09568-2J100).

  10. Using a plastic hammer, disconnect driveshaft (A) from the axle hub.

  11. Using the special tool (09568-2J100), separate the upper arm from the knuckle.
    1. Remove the split pin (A).
    2. Remove the castle nut (B).
    3. Remove the upper arm from knuckle using the special tool (09568-2J100).

      Tightening torque: 

      78.5 - 88.3 N.m (8.0 - 9.0 kgf.m, 57.9 - 65.1 lb-ft)

  12. Loosen the bolt and nut, separate the front shock absorber assembly from the lower arm.

    Tightening torque: 

    137.3 - 156.9 N.m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf.m, 101.3 - 115.7 lb-ft)

  13. Using SST "Engine support fixture", support the Engine.

    (Refer to Suspension System - "Engine support fixture assembly drawing ")

  14. Remove the under cover.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  15. Remove the universal joint from the steering gearbox by loosening the universal joint bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    32.4 - 37.3 N.m (3.3 - 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 - 27.5 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Keep the steering wheel in a neutral position. Moving the steering wheel may damage the cable inside the clock spring.
    • Tighten the steering column bolts in the same direction as they were removed.
    • Do not reuse the universal joint bolt when installing.
  16. Remove the stay bracket by loosening the bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb-ft)

  17. Remove the side cover.

  18. Remove the fixed clip from the subframe.

  19. Disconnect the EPS connector and then remove the wiring (A).

  20. Remove the wheel guard.

    (Refer to Body - "FRONT WHEEL GUARD ")

  21. Remove the hood assembly.

    (Refer to Body - "HOOD ASSEMBLY ")

  22. Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.
  23. Remove the subframe stay bracket by loosening the mounting bolts.

    Tightening Torques: 

    39.2 - 49.0 N.m (4.0 - 5.0 kgf.m, 28.9 - 36.2 lb-ft)

  24. Loosen the subframe mounting bolts and then remove the subframe.

    Tightening torque: 

    176.5 - 196.1 N.m (18.0 - 20.0 kgf.m, 130.2 - 144.7 lb-ft)

    • Must use a engine jack for safety.

  25. Loosen the hanger (A) and then take down the engine slowly.

    • Be careful not to damage the order parts when removing the subframe.
  26. Loosen the mounting bolts and then remove the sub frame. [Tau 5.0]

    Tightening torque: 

    176.5 - 196.1 N.m (18.0 - 20.0 kgf.m, 130.2 - 144.7 lb-ft)

  27. Loosen the mounting nuts and then remove the sub frame. [Tau 5.0]

    Tightening torque: 

    176.5 - 196.1 N.m (18.0 - 20.0 kgf.m, 130.2 - 144.7 lb-ft)

  28. Loosen the mounting bolts (A) and then remove the steering gear box from the sub frame.

    Tightening torque: 

    107.9 - 127.5 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb-ft)

  29. Loosen the mounting bolt & nut and then remove the lateral arm from the sub frame.

    Tightening torque: 

    137.3 - 156.9 N.m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf.m, 101.3 - 115.7 lb-ft)

  30. Loosen the mounting bolt & nut and then remove the compression arm from the sub frame.

    Tightening torque: 

    137.3 - 156.9 N.m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf.m, 101.3 - 115.7 lb-ft)

  31. Remove the engine mounting bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 - 63.7N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb-ft)

  32. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  33. Check the alignment.
