Repair Procedures: Removal

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Remove the engine and transmission assembly.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY ")

  3. Remove the transfer case assembly.[In case by AWD apply] 
    1. Disconnect the AWD ECU connector (A).
    2. Loosen the bolts and then separate the wiring bracket (B).

    3. Loosen the transfer case upper mounting bolts (A).

    4. Loosen the transfer case lower mounting bolts (B) and then removing the transfer case.

  4. Loosen the bolts (A) and nuts (B) and then removing the transmission bracket (C). [In case by 2WD apply]

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 42.2 - 53.9 N.m (4.3 - 5.5 kgf.m, 31.1 - 39.8 lb-ft)
    2. 39.2 - 46.1 N.m (4.0 - 4.7 kgf.m, 28.9 - 34.0 lb-ft)

  5. Remove the items below.
    1. Main connector
    2. Parking release actuator connector
    3. Parking switch connector
    4. Electronic Oil Pump (EOP) connector
    5. Ground line
    6. Wiring bracket
    7. Crank Position Sensor connector

  6. Loosen the bolts and then removing the ground line (A).

  7. Remove the Warm up Catalytic Convertor (WCC).
    1. Disconnect the HO2 sensor (A).
    2. Remove the clamp (B).
    3. Loosen the bolts and then removing the Warm up Catalytic Convertor (WCC) (C).

  8. Loosen the bolts and then removing the intercooler bracket (A).

  9. Loosen the torque converter mounting bolts (B) by rotating the crankshaft using a tool (A).

  10. Remove the Warm up Catalytic Convertor (WCC). [LH]
    1. Disconnect the HO2 sensor (A).
    2. Remove the clamp (B).
    3. Loosen the bolts and then removing the Warm up Catalytic Convertor (WCC) (C).

  11. Loosen the bolts and then separate the wiring bracket (A).

  12. Loosen the bolts and nuts and then removing the engine mounting bracket (A) and engine mounting support bracket (B) at the same time.

  13. Loosen the transmission upper mounting bolts (A) and the starter motor mounting bolts (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 78.5 - 98.1 N.m (4.3 - 5.5 kgf.m, 57.9 - 72.3 lb-ft)
    2. 49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb-ft)

  14. Loosen the transmission bottom mounting bolts and then removing the transmission (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    39.2 - 46.1 N.m (4.0 - 4.7 kgf.m, 28.9 - 34.0 lb-ft)

  15. After separating the transmission from the engine, remove the transmission by lowering the jack slowly.
    CAUTION:
    • Be careful not to damage other nearby wiring or parts when removing the transmission assembly.
