Repair Procedures: Removal

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Loosen the bolt (A) and then separate the universal joint from the steering column and shaft.

    Tightening torque: 

    32.4 - 37.3 N.m (3.3 - 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 - 27.5 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Keep the steering wheel in a neutral position. Moving the steering wheel may damage the cable inside the clock spring.
    • Tighten the steering column bolts in the same direction as they were removed.
    • Do not reuse the universal joint bolt when installing.
  3. Remove the engine side cover (A).

  4. Remove the LH side cover (A).

  5. Remove the service cover (A).

  6. Disconnect the continuously variable damping control connector (A) and then remove the cap (B).

  7. Assemble the engine support fixture.

    (Refer to Special Service Tools - "ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE ASSEMBLY DRAWING ")

  8. Using the engine support fixture (A), hold the engine and transaxle assembly safely.

  9. Loosen the engine mounting bracket nut (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    63.7 - 83.3 N.m (6.5 - 8.5 kgf.m, 47.0 - 61.5 lb-ft)

  10. Loosen the wheel nuts slightly.

    Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.

  11. Remove the front wheel and tire (A) from front hub.

    Tightening torque: 

    137.3 - 156.9 N.m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf.m, 101.3 - 115.7 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Safely remove the wheel and tire (A) using the guide bolt included in the Tire Mobility Kit (TMK).

    • Be careful not to damage the hub bolts when removing the front wheel and tire (A).

  12. Remove the under cover.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  13. Remove the front wheel guard.

    (Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior) - "FRONT WHEEL GUARD ")

  14. Disconnect the R-MDPS connector (A).

  15. Remove the R-MDPS wiring clip (A) from the cross member.

  17. Disconnect the semi active engine mounting connector (A).

  18. Remove the snap pin and then loosen the castle nut (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    98.1 - 117.7 N.m (10.0 - 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 - 86.8 lb-ft)

  19. Remove the tension arm ball joint by using the SST (09568-2J100).

  20. Remove the tension arm (A) after loosening the bolt and nut.

    Tightening torque: 

    156.9 - 176.5 N.m (16.0 - 18.0 kgf.m, 115.7 - 130.2 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Do not reuse the bolt and nut.

  21. Remove the snap pin and then loosen the castle nut (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    98.1 - 117.7 N.m (10.0 - 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 - 86.8 lb-ft)

  22. Remove the lateral arm ball joint by using the SST (09568-2J100).

  23. Loosen the fork bracket mounting bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    156.9 - 176.5 N.m (16.0 - 18.0 kgf.m, 115.7 - 130.2 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Do not reuse the bolt and nut.

  24. Loosen the nut (A) and then remove the stabilizer link from the front knuckle.

    Tightening torque: 

    98.1 - 117.7 N.m (10.0 - 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 - 86.8 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • When loosening the nut, fix the outer hexagon of stabilizer bar link.
    • Be careful not to damage the stabilizer link boots.

  25. Remove the split pin and then loosen the nut (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    98.1 - 117.7 N.m (10.0 - 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 - 86.8 lb-ft)

  26. Remove the tie rod end ball joint (A) by using the SST (09568-2J100).

  27. By hammering on a chisel, unlock the driveshaft lock hub nut caulking.

    NOTE:
    • If there is screw thread (A) on the end of the nut, unlock the caulking by using a chisel and then loosen the nut to prevent damaging driveshaft screw thread.

  28. Loosen the caulking nut (A) from the driveshaft and then separate the driveshaft from the hub assembly by using the plastic hammer.

    Tightening torque: 

    294.2 - 313.8 N.m (30.0 - 32.0 kgf.m, 217.0 - 231.5 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • When removing the drive shaft, use a plastic hammer in order to avoid shock applied to the axle.
    • When removing the drive shaft, do not forcibly pull or excessively bend the axle to separate.

    • The driveshaft lock nut must be replaced with new one.

    • When replacing the drive lock hub nut, use only the nut with screw thread (A) on the end.

    • Tighten the driveshaft lock hub nut to the specified tightening torque, and caulk by using a chisel and hammer.
    • If there are two key seats, perform on all two seats.

    Caulking depth (A):  1.5 mm (0.0591 in)

  29. Loosen the mounting bolt and then remove the inner shaft bearing bracket and the front drive shaft (A) from the engine oil pan.

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 - 68.6 N.m (5.0 - 7.0 kgf.m, 36.2 - 50.6 lb-ft)

  30. Loosen the bolt and then remove the front cross member (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    196.1 - 215.7 N.m (20.0 - 22.0 kgf.m, 144.7 - 159.1 lb-ft)

  31. Remove the side cover (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  32. Loosen the bolt and then remove the stabilizer bar (A).

    Tightening torque:

  33. Loosen the bolt and then remove the steering gear box (A).
