Balance Shaft Module (BSM)

  1. Insert a stopper pin (A) on the balance shaft module (BSM) to hold the sprocket at the reference position with the timing mark (B) aligned with the timing notch (C).

  2. Install the balance shaft module (BSM).
    1. Match the timing marks of balance shaft chain sprocket (A) and balance shaft chain (B), then install the balance shaft sprocket on the chain.

    2. Install the balance shaft module (BSM) (A).

    3. Tighten the bolts with seating torque 29.4 N.m (3.0 kgf.m, 21.7 lb-ft) and then loosen the bolts.
    4. Tighten the bolts with specified tightening torque and angle.

      Tightening torque: 

      22.6 - 26.5 N.m (2.3 - 2.7 kgf.m, 16.6 - 19.5 lb-ft) + 43° - 47°

      NOTE:
      • Always use a new balance shaft module (BSM) bolts.
  3. Remove the stopper pin (A) from the balance shaft module (BSM).

  4. Remove the stopper pin (A) from the tensioner.

    Information 

    • When the crankshaft sprocket rotates four times, the balance shaft module (BSM) sprocket rotates five times, the drive shaft rotates eight times and returns to its original position.
  5. Confirm that the sprocket timing mark (A) is visually aligned with center of adjacent cast timing notch (B).

  6. Install the other parts in the reverse order of removal.
