Repair Procedures: Removal

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Remove the water cooled intercooler.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "WATER COOLED INTERCOOLER ")

  3. Disconnect the Warm-up Catalyst Convertor (WCC) upper heated oxygen sensor (A).

  4. Assemble the engine support.

    (Refer to Special Service Tool - "ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE SPECIAL TOOL ASSEMBLY DRAWING ")

  5. Remove the transfer case.[For 4WD specification] 
    1. Disconnect the AWD ECU connector (A).
    2. Remove the transfer case upper bolts (A).

      Tightening torque: 

      29.4 - 41.2 N.m (3.0 - 4.2 kgf.m, 21.7 - 30.4 lb-ft)

    3. Remove the transfer case after lower bolts (B).

  6. Remove the front propeller shaft.
    1. Loosen the front propeller shaft mounting bolts (A).

      Tightening torque: 

      49.0 - 68.6 N.m (5.0 - 7.0 kgf.m, 36.2 - 50.6 lb-ft)

    2. Remove the front propeller shaft (A).

      NOTE:
      • Record the position of the alignment marks before removing the propeller shaft to keep from tightening the bolt and washer to the wrong position or the wrong direction.
      • Connecting the bolt and washer in the wrong direction may unbalance the propeller shaft. This may cause the propeller shaft to vibrate at high speeds.
      • Do not reuse bolts.
  7. Remove the transmission bracket (C) after loosening the bolts (A) and nuts (B). [For 2WD specification] 

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 42.2 - 53.9 N.m (4.3 - 5.5 kgf.m, 31.1 - 39.8 lb-ft)
    2. 39.2 - 46.1 N.m (4.0 - 4.7 kgf.m, 28.9 - 34.0 lb-ft)

  8. Disconnect the ground wire (A) after loosening the mounting bolt.

  9. Remove the Warm-up Catalyst Convertor (WCC).
    1. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (A).
    2. Remove the clamp (B).
    3. Remove the Warm-up Catalyst Convertor (WCC) (C) after loosening the mounting bolt.

  10. Disconnect the below component.
    1. Main connector
    2. Electronic parking actuator connector
    3. Position sensor connector
    4. Electric oil pump (EOP) connector
    5. Crankshaft position sensor (CKPS) connector
    6. Ground wire and wiring bracket

  11. Remove the dust cover (A) after loosening the bolt.

  12. Loosen the torque converter mounting bolts (B) by rotating the crankshaft (A).

    NOTE:
    • Pre-fasten the 6-ea bolts and fasten again to specified torque.
    • Apply ATF on the bolt's thread before fastening.
  13. Loosen the starter mounting bolts (A) and Automatic transmission mounting bolts (B, C).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb-ft)
    2. 42.2 - 53.9 N.m (4.3 - 5.5 kgf.m, 31.1 - 39.8 lb-ft)
    3. 39.2 - 46.1 N.m (4.0 - 4.7 kgf.m, 28.9 - 34.0 lb-ft)

  14. Separate the transmission and lower the jack slightly to remove the ATF warmer cooling hose (A).

  15. Remove the transmission by slowly lowering the jack.
    NOTE:
    • Be careful not to damage other near by wiring or parts when removing the transmission assembly.
