Repair Procedures: Replacement

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Recover the refrigerant with a recovery/recycling/charging station.
  3. When the engine cools down, drain the engine coolant from the radiator.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "COOLANT " - 2.5L)

    (Refer to "COOLANT " - 3.5L)

  4. Remove the cowl top cover.

    (Refer to Body - "COWL TOP COVER ")

  5. Remove the front wiper motor.

    (Refer to Body Electrical System - "FRONT WIPER MOTOR ")

  6. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the expansion valve (A) from the evaporator core.

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9-1.4 kgf.m, 6.5-10.1 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Plug or cap the lines immediately after disconnecting them to avoid the intrusion of moisture and dust.
    • When installing, replace with a new O-ring.
  7. Remove the heater hose (A).

    CAUTION:
    • Engine coolant will run out when the hoses are disconnected; drain it into a clean drip pan. Be sure not to let coolant spill on electrical parts or painted surfaces. If any coolant spills, rinse it off immediately.
  8. Loosen the cowl cross member mounting bolts.

  9. Remove the front seat assembly.

    (Refer to Body - "FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY ")

  10. Remove the floor console assembly.

    (Refer to Body (interior and Exterior) - ("FLOOR CONSOLE ASSEMBLY ")

  11. Remove the both front pillar trim.

    (Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior) - ("FRONT PILLAR TRIM ")

  12. Remove the front door scuff trim.

    (Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior) - "DOOR SCUFF TRIM ")

  13. Remove the cowl side trim.

    (Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior) - "COWL SIDE TRIM ")

  14. Remove crash pad lower panel.

    (Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior) - "CRASH PAD LOWER PANEL ")

  15. Remove the crash pad center panel.

    (Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior) - "CRASH PAD CENTER PANEL ")

  16. Remove the steering column shroud lower panel.

    (Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior - "STEERING COLUMN SHROUD PANEL ")

  17. Remove the steering wheel.

    (Refer to Steering System - "STEERING WHEEL ")

  18. Remove the multifunction switch.

    (Refer to Body Electrical System - "MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH ")

  19. Pull down the steering column after loosening the mounting bolts and through bolts.

    (Refer to Steering System - "STEERING COLUMN AND SHAFT ")

  20. Remove the accelerator pedal plug hole (A).

  21. Loosen the mounting bolt and nut, remove the accelerator pedal (A).

  22. Disconnect the accelerator pedal connector (A).

  23. Remove the rear air duct (B) after separate the floor carpet (A).

  24. Disconnect the SRSCM connector (A).

  25. spread the front tunnel pad (A) in the direction of the arrow.

  26. Remove the rear heating duct (A).

  27. Disconnect the rear monitor connector (A) and remove the various clips, detach the wiring harness (B).

    NOTE:
    • (C) Take care not to change the left and right side of the connector.
  28. Disconnect the junction box connectors (A).

  29. Disconnect the connectors (A) after loosen the mounting clips in the front pillar.

  30. Disconnect the multi box connectors (A).

  31. Remove the drain hose (A).

  32. Remove the bowler unit lower mounting bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    3.9 - 5.9 N.m (0.4 - 0.6 kgf.m, 2.9 - 4.3 lb-ft)

  33. Disconnect the heater & blower unit connectors.

    1. Press the lock pin disconnect the console ON/OFF actuator connector (A), loosen the mounting screws and remove the console ON/OFF actuator (B).

    3. Press the lock pin and disconnect the auto defogging sensor actuator connector (A) and driver's temperature control actuator connector (B).

  34. Loosen the mounting bolts and nuts, remove the crash pad and heater & blower unit (A) from the body.

  35. Loosen the heater & blower unit mounting bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    3.9 - 5.9 N.m (0.4 - 0.6 kgf.m, 2.9 - 4.3 lb-ft)

  36. Loosen the mounting nuts and remove the heater & blower unit (A) from the crash pad.

    Tightening torque: 

    3.9 - 5.9 N.m (0.4 - 0.6 kgf.m, 2.9 - 4.3 lb-ft)

  37. Loosen the mounting screws and detach the heater unit (A) from the heater & blower assembly.

  38. Install in the reverse order of removal.

    Information 

    • Replace any damaged clips.
    • Make sure the connector is connected properly.
