Repair Procedures: Removal

  1. If the compressor is marginally operable, run the engine at idle speed, and let the air conditioning work for a few minutes, then shut the engine off.
  2. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  3. Recover the refrigerant with a recovery/charging station.
  4. Remove the compressor belt

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "DRIVE BELT " - 2.5L)

    (Refer to "DRIVE BELT " - 3.5L)

  5. Remove the engine room side cover [LH].

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER " - 2.5L)

    (Refer to "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER " - 3.5L)

  6. Press the lock pin and disconnect the ECV connector (A).

  7. Loosen the bolt (A) and then separate the universal joint from the steering column and shaft. [LAMDA 4WD Specifications]

    Tightening torque: 

    32.4 - 37.3 N.m (3.3 - 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 - 27.5 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • When removing the universal joint, be careful not to rotate the steering wheel.
  8. Remove the bolts, then disconnect the suction line (A) and discharge line (B) from the compressor.

    Tightening torque: 

    6.9 - 10.8 N.m (0.7 - 1.1 kgf.m, 5.1 - 8.0 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Plug or cap the lines immediately after disconnecting them to avoid the intrusion of moisture and dust.
  9. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the compressor assembly (A)

    Tightening torque: 

    33.3 - 47.1 N.m (3.4 - 4.8 kgf.m, 24.6 - 34.7 lb-ft)

  10. Remove the compressor assembly (B), after remove the compressor ground cable (A).
