Repair Procedures: Removal

- If the compressor is marginally operable, run the engine at idle speed, and let the air conditioning work for a few minutes, then shut the engine off.
- Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
- Recover the refrigerant with a recovery/charging station.
- Remove the compressor belt
(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "DRIVE BELT " - 2.5L)
(Refer to "DRIVE BELT " - 3.5L)
- Remove the engine room side cover [LH].
(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER " - 2.5L)
(Refer to "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER " - 3.5L)
- Press the lock pin and disconnect the ECV connector (A).
- Loosen the bolt (A) and then separate the universal joint from the steering column and shaft. [LAMDA 4WD Specifications]
Tightening torque:
32.4 - 37.3 N.m (3.3 - 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 - 27.5 lb-ft)
NOTE:- When removing the universal joint, be careful not to rotate the steering wheel.
- Remove the bolts, then disconnect the suction line (A) and discharge line (B) from the compressor.
Tightening torque:
6.9 - 10.8 N.m (0.7 - 1.1 kgf.m, 5.1 - 8.0 lb-ft)
NOTE:- Plug or cap the lines immediately after disconnecting them to avoid the intrusion of moisture and dust.
- Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the compressor assembly (A)
Tightening torque:
33.3 - 47.1 N.m (3.4 - 4.8 kgf.m, 24.6 - 34.7 lb-ft)
- Remove the compressor assembly (B), after remove the compressor ground cable (A).
