Radiator Fan
- Check cooling system fluid level. Ensure thermostat operates properly. Start and run engine. Ensure coolant temperature is less than 190° (88°C). If cooling fan operates, go to next step. If cooling fan does not operate, go to step 3).
- Disconnect cooling fan thermoswitch, located near distributor. See Fig. 1. If cooling fan stops running, replace cooling fan thermoswitch. If cooling fan continues to operate after cooling fan thermoswitch is disconnected, disconnect cooling fan relay. If cooling fan continues to run, check for short to voltage in Blue/Red wire between cooling fan relay and cooling fan motor. If cooling fan stops when relay is disconnected, check for short to voltage in Blue wire between fan thermoswitch and cooling fan relay.
- If cooling fan does not operate with coolant temperature less than 190°F (88°C), run engine until engine coolant temperature is more than 208°F (98°C). Feel radiator hoses for proper thermostat operation. If cooling fan operates, system is okay. If cooling fan does not operate, check fusible link "B", radiator fan fuse and IGN fuse in fuse block. If fuses are okay and cooling fan does not operate, go to next step.
- With cooling fan thermoswitch connector disconnected, connect a fused jumper wire between thermoswitch harness connector terminals Black/White and Blue wires). If cooling fan operates with ignition on, replace cooling fan thermoswitch. If cooling fan does not operate, go to next step.
- Remove cooling fan relay. Connect a fused jumper wire between cooling fan relay connector terminals No. 2 (White/Blue wire) and No. 4 (Blue/Red wire). If cooling fan does not operate with ignition on, check White/Blue wire between fuse block and cooling fan relay. If okay, check Blue/Red wire between cooling fan relay and fan motor harness 2-pin connector. Repair wires as necessary. If cooling fan still does not operate, go to next step.NOTE: Radiator fan and cooling fan relay chassis ground point is located at left front inner fender near radiator on hardtop models and at left side instrument panel above kick panel on convertible models.
- Check ground circuit of cooling fan and cooling fan relay (Black wires) and repair wires/connections as necessary. If cooling fan still does not operate, check Blue wire between fan thermoswitch and cooling fan relay. If Blue wire is okay, replace radiator cooling fan.
