Throttle Position (TP) Sensor: Inspection

NOTE: Perform all testing procedures with engine at normal operating temperature.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect electrical connector from TP sensor. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance at TP sensor with specified feeler gauge thicknesses between throttle lever and stop screw. See Figure and Figure . See THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR RESISTANCE table.
  2. If TP sensor resistances are not as specified, adjust or replace TP sensor. See procedure under ADJUSTMENT  . Once properly adjusted, reconnect electrical connector.

E2 & IDL (1) 0-2300
E2 & IDL (2) Infinity
E2 & VC 3000-8500
E2 & VTA (3) 200-6000
E2 & VTA (4) 3300-10,000
(1) With .016" (.40 mm) feeler gauge installed between throttle stop screw and lever.
(2) With .035" (.89 mm) feeler gauge installed between throttle stop screw and lever.
(3) With zero clearance between throttle stop screw andlever.
(4) Throttle valve at fully open position.
