Anti-Lock Brake System - Rear Wheel: Description
The Rear Wheel Anti-Lock (RWAL) brake system is designed to control braking force of rear wheels. This serves to eliminate wheel lock and maintain directional stability during hard brake application. System consists of wheel speed sensor (mounted in rear differential), pressure limit valve, RWAL Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) and connecting wiring harness.
Power is supplied to the RWAL EBCM through the RWAL power relay. System also utilizes a self-diagnostic function, which enables technician to quickly trouble shoot system by monitoring stored RWAL trouble codes through flashes of the BRAKE warning light.
The RWAL EBCM continuously monitors various input signals to determine control of the pressure limit valve and BRAKE warning light. Available input signals include rear wheel speed sensor, stoplight switch, pressure differential switch (located on proportioning/differential valve), monitor coupler signal (diagnostic test), parking brake switch, brake fluid level switch and 4WD switch (if equipped).
