Anti-Lock Brake System - 4-Wheel: Description

Prizm is equipped with ABS-VI anti-lock brake system. ABS-VI system uses electric motors to modulate displacement pistons. Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) operates on each front wheel and both rear wheels. ABS-VI system consists of Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM), ABS enable relay, wheel speed sensors at each wheel, hydraulic unit, brakelight switch and 3 warning indicator lights.

EBCM uses signals from wheel speed sensor to determine when a wheel is about to lock up and adjusts hydraulic pressure to maintain optimum braking. ABS-VI cannot increase brake pressure greater than master cylinder pressure generated by driver. ABS-VI cannot apply brakes by itself.
