Tachometer Does Not Indicate Correct Engine RPM

  1. Disconnect instrument cluster White 16-pin connector, located behind instrument cluster. Disconnect igniter Light Gray 6-pin connector, located on left strut tower near air cleaner. Using voltmeter, measure voltage between instrument cluster White 16-pin connector terminal No. 11 (Black wire) and ground. If voltage is zero volts, go to next step. If voltage is more than zero volts, repair short to ground in Black wire between instrument cluster and igniter.
  2. Reconnect instrument cluster connector and igniter connector. Connect an external tachometer to DLC connector terminal No. 19 (Black wire). Start engine. If correct RPM is not indicated, check for open in Black wire between DLC and igniter. If okay, replace igniter. If correct RPM is indicated, check for open in Black wire between instrument cluster and splice. If okay, replace tachometer.
