Idle Speed

CAUTION: DO NOT  attempt to adjust throttle stop screw to adjust idle. Throttle stop screw is factory-set and is used as zero reference point for all other adjustments.
NOTE: DO NOT  adjust idle speed in areas above 8200 ft. elevation.
IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS (1)(2)

Application Idle RPM
A/C Off 750-850
A/C On (3) 950-1050
(1) Transaxle or transmission in Neutral or Park.
(2) Idle speed is checked with scan tool and a jumper wire connected between duty check data link connector terminal No. 2 (Blue/Yellow wire) diagnostic request, and terminal No. 4 (Black wire) ground.
(3) Idle speed should be 750-850 RPM in any gear.
IAC DUTY AT SPECIFIED IDLE SPEED (1)

Application (2) Percent
Tracker 50
(1) See IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS  table.
(2) With A/C turned off (if equipped).

  1. Place transaxle in Park (A/T) or Neutral (M/T) and apply parking brake. Ensure throttle cable has at least 0.4-0.6" (10-15 mm) of slack in cable. Adjust throttle cable slack (if necessary). See THROTTLE CABLE ADJUSTMENT  .
  2. Ensure all emission hoses, electrical connections and air cleaner are properly installed. Ensure ignition timing is within specification. See IGNITION TIMING  table. Ensure all accessories are off. Remove cover from idle speed adjusting screw.
  3. Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Connect a fused jumper wire between terminals No. 2 and 4 of test connector, located next to battery. See Figure . Connect a voltmeter between terminals No. 6 and 4. Idle speed and IAC duty should be within specification. See the IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS  and IAC DUTY AT SPECIFIED IDLE SPEED  tables.
  4. If idle speed and/or IAC duty requires adjustment, turn idle speed adjusting screw to obtain correct idle speed. See Fig 1 .
  5. On vehicles equipped with A/C, turn A/C switch to ON position. With A/C operating correctly, verify idle is 950-1050 RPM. If idle speed is not within specification, check A/C ON signal circuit. After adjustments, remove service wire and reinstall protective cap on throttle body. Recheck idle speed.
