M/T Overhaul: Description

Transmission and final drive are mounted in a common 2-piece case. Accord and Prelude models use a 5-speed unit exclusively, while Civic models offer both a 4 and 5-speed.

The transmission is fully synchronized in all forward gears. All forward gears are helically cut and are in constant mesh. Reverse gears are spur cut and are engaged by a sliding reverse idler gear.

On 5-speed transaxles, 5th gear is mounted on mainshaft on rear side of transaxle case (inside end cover). Power transfer to the final drive assembly is by direct mesh of differential ring gear to a gear on transmission countershaft.
