Engine Identification
Engine number is stamped on a machined surface at rear side of engine block (in front of starter motor) on all models. First 5 characters of number identify engine type. The sixth character identifies model year (1 for 19876). The seventh character identifies emission group:
- Accord: 0 for Calif., 2 for Federal (Ohio Built), and 9 for Federal (Japanese Built).
- Prelude: 9 for Calif. and 6 for Federal.
The remaining 5 characters identify engine serial number.
