A/C Idle Boost Solenoid

  1. Disconnect lower vacuum hose of A/C idle boost solenoid valve. Connect vacuum pump. Disconnect upper solenoid vacuum hose from manifold vacuum and connect vacuum gauge. See Fig 1 . Plug manifold vacuum fitting.
  2. Start engine. Apply vacuum. Go to step 3) if solenoid holds vacuum. If solenoid does not hold vacuum, disconnect 2-wire connector near solenoid. Measure voltage between Red (pos.) and Black (neg.) wire terminals of harness. If voltage is not present, replace solenoid. If voltage is present, fault is in ECU control circuit. Go to TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
  3. If solenoid held vacuum is step 2), turn A/C switch to "ON" position. Apply vacuum. If vacuum is not indicated on gauge, go to step 4). If vacuum is indicated on gauge, turn A/C switch to "OFF" position. If vacuum is still indicated on gauge, replace solenoid. If vacuum is not indicated on gauge, check vacuum hose for proper connection, cracks, blockage or disconnection.
  4. If vacuum gauge did not indicate vacuum in step 3), disconnect 2-wire connector near solenoid. Measure voltage between Red (pos.) and Black (neg.) wire terminals of harness. If battery voltage is present, replace solenoid.
  5. If battery voltage is not present, measure voltage between ground and Red wire terminal of solenoid harness. If battery voltage is present, repair open in Black wire between solenoid connector and ground. If battery voltage is not present, inspect Red wire between solenoid valve connector and ECU terminal No. 17. If wire is okay, fault is in ECU control circuit. Go to TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
