Cruise Control Systems: Description

The cruise control system uses mechanical, electrical, and vacuum operated devices to maintain selected vehicle speed above 25 MPH. The cruise control unit receives command signals from the cruise control main switch and the cruise control SET/RESUME switch. It also receives operating signals from the brake switch, distributor, speed sensor, clutch switch (man. trans.) or shift position switch (auto. trans.).

The cruise control unit compares the actual vehicle speed to the selected speed. The brake switch releases system control of throttle the moment the brake pedal is depressed. The clutch switch, shift position switch, and cancel switch send a disengage signal to the control unit.
