Dash Lights Brightness Controller Input Test

  1. Turn ignition off. Carefully pry dash lights brightness controller from driver's side vent. Dimmer switch is built into dash lights brightness controller. Disconnect dash lights brightness controller 3-pin connector. Inspect connector terminals for good contact.
  2. Using a DVOM, check for continuity between dash lights brightness controller 3-pin connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire) and ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire. Check ground connections G401 and G402. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS.
  3. Turn headlight switch to ON position, check for battery voltage between 3-pin connector terminal No. 1 (Red/Black wire) and ground. If battery voltage is not exist, replace blown fuse No. 30 (7.5-amp) of underdash fuse/relay center. If fuse is okay, check for faulty headlight switch or open in Red/Black wire. Repair as necessary.
  4. With headlight switch on, use a jumper wire to connect 3-pin connector terminal No. 3 (Red wire) to ground. Dash lights should be on maximum brightness. If dash lights come on, replace dash lights brightness controller. If dash lights do not come on, repair open in Red wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
