Set/Resume Switch
WARNING:
Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.
NOTE:
On models with theft protection system, obtain radio security code from vehicle owner, before disconnecting battery cable.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect positive battery cable. Wait at least 3 minutes.
- Remove dashboard lower cover. Disconnect driver-side and passenger-side air bag connectors. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. Disconnect 4-pin combination switch harness connector from main wiring harness. Using a DVOM, check continuity between specified terminals of combination switch 4-pin connector terminals, with SET/RESUME switch in appropriate position. See Fig 1 . If continuity is as specified, SET/RESUME switch is okay. If continuity is not as specified, go to next step.
- Remove steering column covers. Disconnect combination switch 4-pin connector from cable reel. Using a DVOM, check continuity between terminals of combination switch harness connectors. See Fig 2 . If continuity does not exist between specified terminals of combination switch harness connectors, replace combination switch harness. If continuity exists between terminals specified, go to next step.
- Remove SET/RESUME switch from steering wheel. Using a DVOM, check for continuity between SET/RESUME switch terminals, with SET/RESUME switch in appropriate position. See Fig 3 . If continuity is not as specified, replace SET/RESUME switch. If continuity is as specified, replace cable reel. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- Ensure air bag restraint system is operating properly. Ensure all air bag components are connected. Connect positive battery cable. Connect negative battery cable. While observing SRS indicator light, turn ignition on. SRS indicator light should illuminate for about 6 seconds, and then go off.
