Anti-Theft System: Description

WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in the ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT section. DO NOT  apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.
NOTE: Anti-theft system is also referred to as security system or security alarm system.

The security system uses a 3-position (AUTO, AUTO LOCK and MANUAL) switch to control arming of system. In AUTO or AUTO LOCK mode, the security alarm system is armed automatically 20 seconds after engine is turned off, key removed from ignition switch and last door, trunk or hood (if equipped with optional hood switch) is closed. The 20 second delay allows for entry or exit from vehicle after arming system or prior to disarming system. If a door is opened during the 20 second exit delay time, timer will automatically reset. Remote transmitter can still be used to arm system with switch in AUTO or AUTO LOCK position.

In MANUAL mode, the system can only be armed using remote transmitter after key is removed from ignition switch, all doors, trunk or hood (if equipped with optional hood switch) are closed. System is armed by pressing LOCK button in remote transmitter. Horn will sound once (if in beep mode) and all doors will lock.

The security system is triggered by several conditions. See TRIGGERING ALARM  .
