DTC 54: Main Relay

  1. If ABS indicator light says on with ignition switch in ON position and DTC 54 is set, go to next step.
  2. Check fuse No. 62 (20-amp), located in underhood ABS fuse/relay box. If problem exists, replace fuse and retest system. If problem does not exist, install fuse and go to next step.
  3. Disconnect ABS control unit 26-pin connector "B". Measure voltage between ground and ABS control unit connector "B" terminals No. 14 and 15 (White/Green wires). See Figure . If battery voltage exists at each terminal, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist at each terminal, repair open in White/Green wire(s) between ABS control unit connector "B" and underhood ABS fuse/relay box.
  4. Turn ignition off. Remove pump motor relay. Disconnect ABS control unit 22-pin connector "A". Check for continuity between ground and ABS control unit connector "A" terminal No. 19 (Yellow/Red wire). See Figure . If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Yellow/Red wire between ABS control unit connector "A" and underhood ABS fuse/relay box.
  5. Check for continuity between ground and ABS control unit connector "B" terminals No. 1 (Green/White wire) and No. 2 (Black/White wire). If continuity does not exist at either terminal, go to next step. If continuity exists at terminal No. 1, check for short to ground in Green/White wire between ABS control unit connector "B" and underhood ABS fuse/relay box or modulator unit. If continuity exists at terminal No. 2, check for short to ground in Black/White wire between ABS control unit connector "B" and modulator unit. If short to ground is found, repair wire. If short to ground is not found, replace ABS modulator unit.
  6. Start engine. Measure voltage between ground and ABS control unit connector "B" terminals No. 1 (Green/White wire) and No. 2 (Black/White wire). If 8 volts or more exist at either terminal, go to next step. If less than 8 volts exist at each terminal, go to step  8 .
  7. If 8 volts or more exist at ABS control unit connector "B" terminal No. 1, check for short to power in Green/White wire between ABS control unit and underhood ABS fuse/relay box or modulator unit. If 8 volts or more exist at ABS control unit connector "B" terminal No. 2, check for short to power in Black/White wire between ABS control unit and modulator unit. If short to power is found, repair wire. If short to power is not found, replace ABS modulator unit.
  8. Turn ignition off. Connect fused jumper wire or SCS Service Connector (07PAZ-0010100) between service check connector terminals. See Figure or Figure . Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and ABS control unit connector "B" terminals No. 1 (Green/White wire) and No. 2 (Black/White wire). If voltage does not exist, replace ABS control unit.
