Cruise Control Communication Circuit Troubleshooting

Start the engine.
Turn on the cruise control main switch, then drive the vehicle to speeds over 25 mph (40 km/h) with the cruise control.
Does the cruise control operate?
1. YES: Go to step 3.
2. NO: Check the cruise control unit or cruise control actuator.
Turn the ignition switch OFF.
Disconnect cruise control unit 14P connector and powertrain control module (PCM) connector A (32P) (1999-2000, 2002-2004 models) or PCM connector E (31P) (2001 model).
Check for continuity between the No. 8 terminal of the cruise control unit 14P connector and body ground.

Is there continuity?
1. YES: Repair a short in the wire between the PCM connector terminal A5 (1999-2000, 2002-2004 models) or E17 (2001 model) and cruise control unit 14P connector terminal No. 8.
2. NO: Go to step 6.
Reconnect the cruise control unit 14P connector and PCM connector A (32P) (1999-2000, 2002-2004 models) or PCM connector E (31P) (2001 model).
Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
Connect a voltmeter between the No. 8 terminal of the cruise control unit 14P connector and body ground. Drive the vehicle at speeds over 25 mph (40 km/h) with the cruise control set, and watch the voltmeter.

Is there about 1 V?
1. YES: Go to step 9.
2. NO: Replace the cruise control unit.
Connect a voltmeter between PCM connector terminal A5 (1999-2000, 2002-2004 models) or E17 (2001 model) and body ground. Drive the vehicle at speeds over 25 mph (40 km/h) with the cruise control set, and watch the voltmeter.

Is there about 1 V?
1. YES: Check for loose connection of the BLU/GRN wire between the cruise control unit and the PCM. If necessary replace the PCM and recheck (see HOW TO RESET THE PCM ).
2. NO: Repair an open in the wire between the PCM connector terminal A5 (1999-2000, 2002-2004 models) or E17 (2001 model) and the cruise control unit 14P connector terminal No. 8.
