Set/Resume Switch

NOTE: On models with theft protection system, obtain radio security code from vehicle owner, before disconnecting battery cable.
  1. Disable air bag system. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Remove instrument panel lower cover. Disconnect driver-side and passenger-side air bag connectors.
  2. Disconnect 4-pin combination switch harness connector from main wiring harness. Check continuity between specified terminals of combination switch harness connector terminals with SET/RESUME switch in appropriate position. See COMBINATION SWITCH HARNESS CONTINUITY TEST  table. See Fig 1 . If continuity is as specified, SET/RESUME switch is okay. If continuity is not as specified, go to next step.

Switch Position Continuity Between Terminals No.
    Set (ON) 2 & 3
    Resume (ON) 1 & 3
  3. Remove steering column covers. Disconnect combination switch 4-pin connector from cable reel. Check for continuity of each wire in combination switch harness between connector at main harness and connector at cable reel. See Fig 2 . Continuity should exist in each wire in combination switch harness. If continuity is not as specified, replace combination switch harness. If continuity is as specified, go to next step.
  4. Remove SET/RESUME switch from steering wheel. See SET/RESUME SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check for continuity between SET/RESUME switch terminals, with SET/RESUME switch in appropriate position. See Fig 3 . See SET/RESUME SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST  table. If continuity is not as specified, replace SET/RESUME switch. If continuity is as specified, replace cable reel. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
  5. Restore all components and connections. Ensure all air bag components are connected. Connect positive battery cable. Connect negative battery cable. Ensure air bag restraint system is operating properly. While observing SRS indicator light, turn ignition on. SRS indicator light should illuminate for about 6 seconds, and then go off.
