INTRODUCTION

When automatic transmission diagnosis requires the vehicle to be driven while on a lift, the transmission may not automatically shift beyond 2nd gear. In order to shift past 2nd gear, the shift lever will need to be moved to Neutral, then back into Drive, possibly interfering with data list readings.

This Job Aid shows you how to access the Pressure Test Assistance Mode using the HDS/iHDS. This mode allows:

NOTE: This mode is not available for 9AT,10AT, CVT, and some automatic transmissions. If the Pressure Test Assistance Mode is not visible in Function Test in the HDS/iHDS, this mode is not available on the vehicle you are diagnosing.

STARTING THE PRESSURE TEST ASSISTANCE MODE

  1. Make sure the vehicle's drive wheels are off the ground and free from obstruction (disengage the parking brake, and turn off the vehicle's VSA system, if applicable).
  2. Connect the HDS/iHDS to the vehicle.
  3. Put the vehicle in ON mode.
  4. Make sure the vehicle is at the correct testing condition for your diagnosis (engine coolant temperature, transmission fluid temperature, etc.).
  5. Start the engine.
  6. Select AT  from the System Selection Menu.

  7. Select Function Test  from the Test Mode Menu.

  8. Select Pressure Test Assistance Mode  from the Function Test Menu.

  10. Select the green check mark to start the Pressure Test Assistance Mode.

  11. The vehicle is now in the Pressure Test Assistance Mode. You can now perform tests on the vehicle and automatic transmission using the driver inputs. Pressing the green check mark will return to the previous menu, but WILL NOT disable the Pressure Test Assistance Mode.

  12. When you have you completed your test or collected sufficient data, you can turn OFF the vehicle. This will return the vehicle system to normal.
