PDI PROCEDURES
Install the Fuses
To prevent battery drain during shipping, the No. 15 (40 A) fuse (Backup, ACC) is removed from the primary under-hood fuse/relay box and stored in the lower glove box. Make sure you install this fuse with the ignition switch in LOCK (0).
On vehicles with a rear entertainment system (RES), the No. 11 (7.5 A) fuse (RES) is removed from the secondary under-hood fuse box and stored in the glove box. Make sure you install this fuse.
Check the Battery
To ensure long battery life and that the customer receives a fully charged battery, the battery should be checked in these instances:
- When the vehicle first arrives at the dealership
- During the PDI (if done at a later time)
- During regular intervals
- Just before delivering the vehicle to the customer
Test the battery with the ED-18 battery tester using the instructions in Service Bulletin 88-023 , BATTERY TESTING AND REPLACEMENT. Do not use the battery's test indicator window to check its state of charge. If the ED-18 tester does not show GOOD BATTERY, charge the battery (refer to Service Bulletin 89-003 , BATTERY MAINTENANCE AT DEALERS) then recheck it.
Write down the GOOD BATTERY 10-digit code in the Service History booklet: During the PDI, write down the code in the "Under Hood (Engine Cold)" section, and then when the vehicle is delivered to the customer, write down the code in the "Final Inspection (At Delivery)" section.
Do the Idle Learn Procedure
To ensure a steady engine idle, do the idle learn procedure after installing the No. 15 fuse.
- Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio unit, defogger, lights, etc.) are off.
- Start the engine, and let it reach its normal operating temperature (the cooling fans cycle twice).
- Let the engine idle (with the throttle fully closed and all electrical items off) for 10 minutes.
The idle learn procedure must also be done after updating or replacing the PCM. It does not need to be done after you clear DTCs.
Install the Shift Lock Release Cover
The shift lock release cover is in the owner's manual bag in the glove box. Install the cover in the shift lock release slot on the left side of the shift lever.
Install the Floor Mats
The floor mats are behind the third row seat. Install them in the appropriate positions, and make sure the driver's floor mat is properly attached to the hooks.
Install the Front License Plate Holder
The front license plate holder and its mounting hardware are stored in the in-floor storage area behind the front seats. If state regulations require that a front license plate be installed, install the front license plate frame with the four self-tapping screws.
Install the Inner Side Sill Grommets
During shipping, four grommets are removed from the inner side sills and stored in the glove box. Install these grommets in the locations shown.
Check the Driver's Window Auto-Up/Down Feature
Make sure the driver's window auto-up/down feature works properly. When you firmly push the driver's window switch and then release it, the window should fully open; when you firmly pull back the switch and then release it, the window should fully close.
If it does not work properly, initialize the auto-up/down feature. To initialize the auto-up/down feature, do this:
- Make sure the window is fully closed, then push and hold the window switch until the window is fully open.
- Pull back the window switch, and hold it until the window is fully closed. Continue to hold the switch for another 2 seconds.
- Check the auto-up/down feature: When you firmly push the window switch and then release it, the window should fully open; when you firmly pull back the switch and then release it, the window should fully close. If the window doesn't work this way, repeat the initialization.
- If the auto-up/down feature will not initialize, do the power window control unit reset procedure in the service manual.
Check the Keyless Memory Settings Operation (Touring Models)
Make sure the keyless memory settings are linked to the remote transmitters 1 and 2 (identified on the back as MEMORY 1 or MEMORY 2). When linked, depending on which transmitter unlocks the vehicle, the corresponding memory positions and customized settings are chosen.
To check if the remote transmitters are properly linked, do this:
- Use remote transmitter 1 to lock the doors.
- Use the same remote to unlock the doors.
- Start the engine, and look at the MID. The MID should display "Welcome Driver 1."
- Repeat steps 1- 3 with remote transmitter 2. The MID should display "Welcome Driver 2." If the keyless memory settings operate as described, the remote transmitters are properly linked. If not, link the remote transmitters.
To link or unlink the remote transmitters, do this:
- Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time for about 1 second.
- The LED blinks once to indicate the remote is linked; it blinks twice to indicate it is unlinked.
Set the Radio and the Clock (Models Without Navigation)
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and turn on the radio.
- If not already done, enter the radio anti-theft code.
- Enter a local AM or FM station on all the radio preset buttons. To enter a station, press and hold the button until you hear a beep.
- Press and hold the CLOCK button on the audio panel until the clock flashes.
- Press and hold the H button on the audio panel to set the hour.
- Press and hold the M button on the audio panel to set the minutes.
- When you are finished setting the time, press the CLOCK button again.
Check/Refresh the XM Satellite Radio Dealer Demo Service (All EX-L and Touring Models)
XM radio is standard on EX-L, EX-L RES, EX-L RES with Navigation, and Touring models. LX and EX models have XM as an accessory, which requires the XM accessory kit to be operational.
On models with XM as standard, the XM radio comes with a dealer demo service that includes the full range of XM channels once you install the No. 15 fuse. Make sure this service is activated by checking if the radio is getting channels 000, 001, 007, 009, 047, 122, 174, and 247. If it is not, do a rapid refresh on the i N (Interactive Network). Without the dealer demo service activated, the XM radio only displays channels 000, 001, 174, and 247.
To check for the dealer demo service, do this:
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Turn on the radio, enter the 4-digit navigation antitheft code (if not already done), and press the XM button.
- Make sure the radio is in CHANNEL MODE, not CATEGORY MODE. Press and hold the DISPMODE button until the mode changes (without navigation), or touch the MODE icon (with navigation) to switch between modes.
- Tune to channel 001 (the XM preview channel) to make sure you are receiving the XM signal. If you do not get a clear signal, park the vehicle outside where there is a clear view of the southern sky.
- Look at the audio unit display, and turn the TUNE knob.
- If you can tune to channels 000, 001, 007, 009, 047, 122, 174, and 247, the dealer demo service is activated. Tune to channel 001, and leave the radio on for 7 minutes to refresh the dealer demo service. No further action is needed.
- If you cannot tune to channels 000, 001, 007, 009, 047, 122, 174, and 247, the dealer demo service is not yet activated, and an activation refresh needs to be done. Go to step 6.
- Turn the TUNE knob to 000,
then write down the 8-character XM radio ID you see in the audio unit display. You need this ID, your dealer number, and the VIN to do an activation refresh of the dealer demo service. Go to step 7.NOTE:
- If you cannot tune to channel 000, you are in CATEGORY MODE. See step 3 above to switch from CATEGORY MODE to CHANNEL MODE.
- Check the ID code carefully. The letters I, O, S, and F are not used.
- Go to an i
N workstation.NOTE: If you don't have access to the i N, call XM Satellite Radio at 800-852-9696, and follow the instructions on the automated menu. When the agent answers, ask for a rapid dealer activation refresh, then go to step 10.
- From the i
N main menu, click on SERVICE,
click on Service Bay,
and then click on XM Radio.
This brings up the DEALER ACTIVATION REFRESH
screen.NOTE: If you cannot bring up this display, call the i N Support Center at 800-245-4343.
- Enter the 8-character XM radio ID you wrote down in step 6, then click on Submit.
You will see the ACTIVATION REFRESH
screen once the ID is recognized.NOTE: If you enter the ID incorrectly, or if it is not recognized, you will see an error display. If this happens, follow the instructions on the display.
- Turn the TUNE knob to 001 to make sure you are receiving the XM signal. If you do not get a clear signal, park the vehicle outside where there is a clear view of the southern sky, then go to step 11.
- Leave the radio on for at least 10 minutes, then go to step 12.
- Look at the audio unit display, and turn the TUNE knob.
- If you can tune to channels 000, 001, 007, 009, 047, 122, 174, and 247, the dealer demo service is activated. No further action is needed.
- If you can only tune to channels 000, 001, 174, and 247, the dealer demo service is not yet activated. Repeat steps 10 and 11 for up to 2 hours until the dealer demo service is activated.
- If, after 2 hours, you can only tune to channels 000, 001, 174, and 247, repeat steps 7 thru 11.
NOTE:- The dealer demo service lasts for 7 months or until the vehicle's RDR (retail delivery registration) is submitted.
- After the vehicle is registered, the dealer demo service converts to a customer account. The customer gets a 3-month trial service of all available non-premium XM channels. If the customer decides to end the service after that time, the XM radio reverts to preview mode. Normal AM and FM radio reception is not affected by ending the service.
- The XM radio receives digital programming broadcasts from two fixed-orbit satellites above the equator along with a network of ground antennas (repeaters). You will get the strongest signal if you move the vehicle where there is a clear view of the southern sky.
- The XM radio may lose reception when you are driving through a tunnel, under an overpass, inside a parking garage, or near the northern face of a canyon or a mountain.
- To cut down on reception loss, XM radio uses a buffer. If the reception loss lasts longer than the buffering period, the signal goes silent.
- Because the XM radio signal is digital, any reception loss makes the signal go silent; the signal usually does not fade like it does with an AM/FM radio.
- If you ever need to replace the XM radio receiver, call XM Satellite Radio at 800-852-9696. Be prepared to give them your dealer number, the VIN, and the XM radio ID from the printed label on the side of the old and the new receiver units.
Do the HandsFreeLink Operational Check
To confirm that the HFL system works and is ready to use, start the engine, then press and hold the HFL BACK button on the steering wheel for 10 seconds. You should hear "The HandsFreeLink system is OK." If the HFL system does not operate correctly, refer to the service manual for troubleshooting procedures.
Set Up the Rear Entertainment System (RES) (If Equipped)
The RES is available on Touring with Navigation and RES models. Refer to the owner's manual for detailed information on RES operation.
Before starting the setup procedure, remove both RES wireless headphone sets and the batteries from the plastic bag stored in the rear cargo area. Install the batteries in the headphones.
There are various types of DVDs available. Some of them are not compatible with the system. The DVDs should bear the region designation of "1" or "ALL."
If a DVD is available, turn the ignition switch to ACC (I) or ON (II), then insert the DVD into the DVD player.
Release the screen by pressing the release button, then lower the screen to the detent.
Turn on the wireless headphones by pivoting the ear pieces outward, and adjust the volume using the volume dial on the ear piece.
- The headsets will not turn on if the batteries are installed incorrectly.
- While the DVD is playing, test the functions with the remote control and make sure both wireless headphones work properly. The wireless headphones work in the rear seats only, not in the front seats, and not outside the vehicle.
When you are finished, remove the DVD from the DVD player, and store the remote control in the ceiling unit. Store both headphones in the front seat-back pockets.
Make Sure the TPMS Sensors Are Operational, and Set the Tire Pressures
To make sure the TPMS sensors are operational and the tire pressures are set, do this:
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Use a tire pressure gauge with a bleeder valve to quickly
lower the pressure in one tire to 18 psi or less. NOTE:
- The tire pressure must be lowered by at least 3 psi within 15 seconds, or the TPMS sensor in the wheel will not be activated.
- To ensure accuracy, periodically check your tire pressure gauge with the calibration tool (P/N 07AAJ-000A100, H/C 8298457). This tool was sent to all dealerships in August 2006.
- Adjust the tire pressure to the cold inflation pressure listed on the driver's doorjamb label. If you are in a cold climate region, make sure the tire is at the same temperature as the outside air before adjusting the pressure; otherwise, the TPMS low tire pressure indicator may show low tire pressure in cold weather.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the other three tires.
Do the CKP-Pattern Learn Procedure
To ensure proper engine operation, do the CKP-pattern learn procedure after doing the idle learn procedure. Do this procedure on a level road during the PDI road test. The procedure consists of a low-rpm and a high-rpm pattern learn. Make sure you do the low-rpm pattern learn first.
- Low-rpm Pattern Learn: Shift to D3, and decelerate with the throttle fully closed from 2,500 rpm to 1,000 rpm.
- High-rpm Pattern Learn: Shift to 1, and decelerate with the throttle fully closed from 5,000 rpm to 3,000 rpm.
Remove the Exterior Protective Coatings
Carefully remove the exterior protective coatings. Refer to Service Bulletin 03-080, REMOVAL OF PROTECTIVE COATINGS DURING PDI .
