Power Tailgate Sensor Test

NOTE: If the motor does not operate, do the power tailgate motor test (see POWER TAILGATE MOTOR TEST  ).
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and then back to ON (II).
  2. Open the tailgate.
  3. Remove the left rear side trim (see TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - REAR SIDE AREA ).
  4. Measure the voltage between power tailgate drive unit connector B (8P) terminal No. 8 and body ground.
    • If there is no battery voltage, repair an open or high resistance in the wire. If the wire is OK, replace the power tailgate control unit.
    • If there is battery voltage, go to step 5.

  5. Measure the voltage between power tailgate drive unit connector B (8P) terminals No. 6 and No. 4, and between terminals No. 7 and No. 4 while the tailgate is opened or closed manually.
    • If the voltage alternates between about 0 V and 5 V with an analog voltmeter, or about 2.5 V is indicated with a digital voltmeter, repair an open or high resistance in the wire. If the wire is OK, replace the power tailgate control unit (see CONTROL UNIT INPUT TEST/REPLACEMENT  ).
    • If the voltage is not specified, replace the power tailgate sensor (see POWER TAILGATE SENSOR REPLACEMENT  ).
