DTC U0114: F-CAN Malfunction (PCM-VTM-4 Control Unit)
- Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
- If DTC U0029 is stored at the same time as DTC U0114, troubleshoot DTC U0029 first, then recheck for DTC U0114.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC U0114 indicated?
YES -Go to step 4.
NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the VTM-4 control unit and the PCM.
- Check for communication to the VTM-4 system with the HDS.
Does the HDS communicate with the VTM-4 control unit?
YES -Go to step 5.
NO -Go to the VTM-4 symptom troubleshooting for VTM-4 indicator does not go off, and no DTCs are stored (see SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING ).
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector A (49P).
- Disconnect VTM-4 control unit connector A (22P).
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal A48(A49)* and VTM-4 control unit connector terminal A11 (A22)* individually.

Is there continuity?
YES -Substitute a known-good VTM-4 control unit (see VTM-4 CONTROL UNIT REPLACEMENT ), then go to step 10 and recheck. If DTC U0114 is not indicated, replace the original VTM-4 control unit (see VTM-4 CONTROL UNIT REPLACEMENT ), then go to step 10.
NO -Repair an open in the wire between the VTM-4 control unit (A11 (A22)*) and the PCM (A48 (A49)*), then go to step 10.
- Reconnect all connectors.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE ).
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC U0114 indicated?
YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the VTM-4 control unit and the PCM, then go to step 1.
NO -Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING .
