Key Interlock Solenoid Test

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ), and the precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before doing repairs or service.
- Remove the driver's dashboard lower cover (see DRIVER'S DASHBOARD LOWER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
- Remove the steering column covers (see step 5 STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ).
- Disconnect the steering lock assembly 6P connector.
- Insert the ignition key in the key cylinder, then turn the ignition switch to ACCESSORY (I).
- Connect battery power to steering lock assembly 6P connector terminal No. 4, and ground to terminal No. 3. Then try turning the ignition switch to LOCK (0); the ignition switch should not turn.
- Disconnect battery power and ground from the terminals, then turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and remove the key; the ignition switch should turn and the key can be removed.
- If the key interlock solenoid does not work properly, replace the steering lock (see STEERING LOCK REPLACEMENT ).
