Pressure Test

Special Tools Required 

NOTE:
  • Disable the VSA by pressing the VSA OFF button.
  • VSA DTC (s) may come on during the test-drive. If the VSA DTC (s) come on, clear the DTC (s) after testing is done with the HDS.
  1. Make sure the transmission fluid is filled to the proper level (see ATF LEVEL CHECK  ).
  2. 4WD: Raise the vehicle on a lift, make sure it is securely supported, and allow all four wheels to rotate freely.

    2WD: Block the rear wheels and raise the front of the vehicle, make sure it is securely supported, and allow the front wheels to rotate freely, raise the vehicle on a lift.

  3. Remove the splash shield (see SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT ).
  4. Remove the damper from the front subframe.

  5. Connect the HDS to the DLC (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.

  6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II). Make sure the HDS communicates with the PCM, and go to the A/T Data List. If it does not, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting (see DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING ).
  7. Connect the A/T oil pressure gauge to the line pressure inspection port (A), the 3rd clutch pressure port (B), and the 5th clutch pressure port (C). Do not allow dust or other foreign particles to enter the hole while connecting the A/T oil pressure gauge.

  8. Start the engine, and warm it up to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on).
  9. Measure the line pressure while holding the engine speed at 2, 000 rpm with the shift lever in P or N.
    NOTE: Higher pressures may be noticed if measurements are taken with the shift lever in any position other than P or N.

    Line (A) 951-1, 010 kPa (9.7-10.3 kgf/cm2 , 138-146 psi) 902 kPa (9.2 kgf/cm2 , 131 psi)
  10. Shift to D, and select the D3 driving mode by pressing the D3. Release the brake pedal; the transmission is in 1st gear.
  11. Press the accelerator pedal to increase the engine speed to 2, 500 rpm; the transmission shifts into 2nd gear.
  12. Release the accelerator pedal; the engine speed decreases to 1, 000 rpm with the transmission in 2nd gear.
  13. Press the accelerator pedal very slowly so that the engine speed increases to 2, 000 rpm on 5 seconds, then hold the accelerator; the transmission shifts into 3rd gear. Measure the 3rd clutch pressure while holding the engine speed at 2, 000 rpm.
  14. Release the D3 driving mode by pressing the D3 button; the transmission shifts into 5th gear. Measure the 5th clutch pressure while holding the engine speed at 2, 000 rpm.

  15. Bring the engine back to an idle, then apply the brake pedal to stop the wheels from rotating.
  16. Shift to R, then release the brake pedal. Measure the 5th clutch pressure while holding the engine speed at 2, 000 rpm.

    5th clutch (C) in R 941-1, 020 kPa (9.6-10.4 kgf/cm2 , 137-148 psi) 892 kPa (9.1 kgf/cm2 , 129 psi)
  17. Turn the engine off, then disconnect the A/T oil pressure gauge from the line, 3rd clutch, and 5th clutch pressure inspection ports.
  18. Install the sealing bolts in the line, 3rd clutch, and 5th clutch pressure inspection ports with new sealing washers, and tighten the bolts to 18 N.m (1.8 kgf.m, 13 lbf.ft). Do not reuse the old sealing washers.
  19. Connect the A/Toil pressure gauge to the 1st clutch pressure inspection port (D) and the 1st-hold clutch pressure inspection port (E).

  20. Start the engine, and shift to 1.
  21. Measure the 1st clutch pressure and the 1st-hold clutch pressure while holding the engine speed at 2, 000 rpm.
    Pressure Fluid Pressure

    1st clutch (D) 941-1, 020 kPa (9.6-10.4 kgf/cm2 , 137-148 psi) 892 kPa (9.1 kgf/cm2 , 129 psi)
    1st-hold clutch (E) 677-755 kPa (6.9-7.7 kgf/cm2 , 98-110 psi) 628 kPa (6.4 kgf/cm2 , 91 psi)
  22. Turn the engine off, then disconnect the A/T oil pressure gauge from the 1st clutch pressure and 1st-hold clutch pressure inspection ports.
  23. Install the sealing bolts in the 1st clutch pressure and 1st-hold clutch pressure inspection ports with new sealing washers, and tighten the bolts to 18 N.m (1.8 kgf.m, 13 lbf.ft). Do not reuse the old sealing washers.
  24. Remove the air cleaner assembly and the intake air duct.
  25. Disconnect the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve C connector (A).

  26. Remove the harness cover mounting bolt (B), and remove the harness cover (C) from its bracket (D).
  27. Connect the A/T oil pressure gauge to the 4th clutch pressure inspection port (E).
  28. Connect the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve C connector.
  29. Connect the A/T oil pressure gauge to the 2nd clutch pressure inspection port (F), then temporarily install the air cleaner assembly and the intake air duct.

  30. Start the engine, then shift to 1.
  31. Press the accelerator pedal to increase the engine speed to 2, 500 rpm; the transmission shifts into 2nd gear.
  32. Measure the 2nd clutch pressure while holding the engine speed at 2, 000 rpm.

    4th clutch (E) 2nd clutch (F) 941-1, 020 kPa (9.6-10.4 kgf/cm2 , 137-148 psi) 892 kPa (9.1 kgf/cm2 , 129 psi)
  33. Shift to D, then measure the 4th clutch pressure while holding the engine speed at 2, 000 rpm.
  34. Turn the engine off, remove the air cleaner assembly and the intake air duct, and disconnect the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve C connector. Then disconnect the A/T oil pressure gauge from the 2nd clutch pressure and 4th clutch pressure inspection port.
  35. Install the sealing bolt to the 2nd clutch pressure and 4th clutch pressure inspection ports with a new sealing washer, and tighten the bolt to 18 N.m (1.8 kgf.m, 13 lbf.ft). Do not reuse the old sealing washer.
  36. Install the harness cover (A) on its bracket (B), and secure it with the harness cover mounting bolt.

  37. Connect the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve C connector (C).
  38. If any of the pressures are out of the service limit, refer to the problems and probable causes listed in the table.

  39. Install the air cleaner assembly and the intake air duct.
  40. Install the damper on the front subframe.
  41. Install the splash shield (see SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT ).
  42. Check the ATF level (see ATF LEVEL CHECK  ).
