Gauge Control Module Input Test

NOTE: 

1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode

2. Disconnect the following connector.

3. Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact:

4. With the connector still disconnected, do the following input tests:

Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired result is not obtained
A15 GRN Combination light switch ON Connect to ground with a jumper wire: The dashlights should come on full bright.
  • Faulty LEDs
  • Faulty bulbs
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
A16 RED Combination light switch ON Connect to ground with a jumper wire: The dashlights should come on full bright.
  • Faulty bulbs
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
A9 BRN Vehicle ON mode, turn signal switch to LEFT Measure the voltage to ground: There should be battery voltage when the lights are flashing.
  • Faulty MICU
  • Faulty combination light switch
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
A10 GRN Vehicle ON mode, turn signal switch to RIGHT Measure the voltage to ground: There should be battery voltage when the lights are flashing.
  • Faulty MICU
  • Faulty combination light switch
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
A5* GRY Disconnect the outside air temperature sensor 2P connector Check for continuity between terminal No. 5 and outside air temperature sensor 2P connector terminal No. 2: There should be continuity. An open or high resistance in the wire
Check for continuity between terminal No. 5 and body ground: There should be no continuity. A short to ground in the wire
A6 PNK Disconnect the outside air temperature sensor 2P connector Check for continuity between terminal No. 6 and outside air temperature sensor 2P connector terminal No. 1: There should be continuity. An open or high resistance in the wire
Check for continuity between terminal No. 6 and body ground: There should be no continuity. A short to ground in the wire

5. Reconnect the connector, and do the following input tests:

Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired result is not obtained
A1 RED Under all conditions Measure the voltage to ground: There should be battery voltage.
  • Blown No. A29 (10 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
A17 LT GRN Vehicle ON mode Measure the voltage to ground: There should be battery voltage.
  • Blown No. B5 (10 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
A4 BRN In all ignition switch positions or all power modes Measure the voltage to ground: There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Poor ground (G502)
  • An open or high resistance in the ground wire

A2 PUR Vehicle ON mode, ECON switch pushed Measure the voltage to ground: There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Faulty ECON switch
  • Poor ground (G501) or an open in the ground wire
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
Vehicle ON mode, ECON switch released Measure the voltage to ground: There should be battery voltage.
  • Faulty ECON switch
  • A short to ground in the wire
A25 GRY Vehicle ON mode, brake fluid is at full level in the reservoir Measure the voltage to ground: There should be battery voltage
  • Faulty brake fluid level switch
  • A short to ground in the wire
Vehicle ON mode, brake fluid is at lower level in the reservoir Measure the voltage to ground: There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Faulty brake fluid level switch
  • Poor ground (G402) or an open in the ground wire
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
A26 BLU Vehicle ON mode, parking brake pedal pressed Measure the voltage to ground: There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Faulty parking brake switch
  • Faulty parking brake switch ground
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
Vehicle ON mode, parking brake pedal released Measure the voltage to ground: There should be battery voltage.
  • Faulty parking brake switch
  • A short to ground in the wire
A27* YEL Vehicle ON mode, washer fluid is half or more in the washer reservoir Measure the voltage to ground: There should be battery voltage.
  • Faulty washer fluid level switch
  • A short to ground in the wire
Vehicle ON mode, washer fluid is empty in the washer reservoir Measure the voltage to ground: There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Faulty washer fluid level switch
  • Poor ground (G202) or an open in the ground wire
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
