DTC P0741 (6-Speed A/T)
DTC P0741 : Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck OFF
NOTE:
- Before you troubleshoot, review the General Troubleshooting Information - Refer to: How to Troubleshoot the A/T System .
- Drive the vehicle in this manner only if the traffic regulations and ambient conditions allow.

DTC (A/T)
- DTC check
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 2. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description Confirmed DTC Pending DTC Freeze Frame P0761 Shift Solenoid Valve C Stuck OFF Is DTC P0761 indicated?
YES
Do the troubleshooting for DTC P0761 .
NO
Go to step 2.
- ATF check
- 1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on).
- 2. Make sure that the transmission is filled to the proper level, and check for fluid leaks.
- 3. Drain the ATF through a strainer. Inspect the strainer for metal debris or excessive clutch material.
Does the strainer have metal debris or excessive clutch material?
YES
Replace the transmission - Refer to: Automatic Transmission Removal and Installation (6-Speed A/T) .
NO
Replace the ATF - Refer to: ATF Replacement (6-Speed A/T) , then go to step 3.
- Problem verification
- 1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on).
- 2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- 3. Test-drive the vehicle on a level road with a steady throttle at 60 mph (96 km/h) for at least 22 seconds, or test-drive the vehicle for several minutes under the same conditions as those indicated by the freeze data.
Freeze Data
- 4. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description Confirmed DTC Pending DTC Freeze Frame P0741 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck OFF Is DTC P0741 indicated?
YES
The failure is duplicated. Go to step 4.
NO
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. If the freeze data/on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the freeze data/on-board snapshot.
- A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve D check
- 1. Select Clutch Pressure Control (Linear) Solenoid Valve D in the Miscellaneous Test Menu, and test A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve D with the HDS.
Clutch Pressure Control (Linear) Solenoid Valve D
Does the HDS indicate NORMAL?
NORMAL
A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve D is OK. Go to step 5.
FAILURE (in except A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve D)
Follow the instructions indicated on the HDS for the test result.
FAILURE (in A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve D)
Faulty A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve D. Replace the secondary valve body (A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve D) .
- Torque converter clutch check
- 1. Measure the torque converter clutch pressure while monitoring the parameter (s) below with the HDS.
Signal Current conditions Values Unit A/T Shift Sol VLV. C Does the torque converter clutch pressure rise when A/T Shift Sol VLV. C turns on?
YES
The torque converter clutch is OK. Faulty lock-up shift valve or lock-up control valve. Replace the main valve body (lock-up shift valve), the regulator valve body (lock-up control valve), or the transmission - Refer to: Automatic Transmission Removal and Installation (6-Speed A/T) . If replacing the main valve body or the regulator valve body, clean off any metal debris or excessive clutch material inside the transmission, the ATF hoses, the ATF pipes, and the hydraulic circuit. Then, replace the main valve body or the regulator valve body and the torque converter.
NO
Faulty torque converter clutch. Replace the torque converter.
