Fuel Pressure Relieving: Procedure

NOTE:
  • Refer to the Fuel and Emissions Systems Service Precautions  before disconnecting the fuel line.
  • Before disconnecting fuel lines or hoses, relieve pressure from the system by disabling the fuel pump and disconnecting the fuel line/quick connect fitting in the engine compartment.
  • When you relieve the fuel pressure, stop the fuel pump according to 4th procedure (with HDS) or 5th procedure (without HDS).
  1. Fuel Tank Pressure - Relieve

    1. Remove the emergency fuel funnel (A) from the lid (B) of the right rear side trim panel.

    2. Insert the emergency fuel funnel (A) into the fuel filler neck to relieve the pressure in the fuel tank.
  2. Second Row Seat (Left Side) - Remove
  3. Second Row Seat Left Striker Trim - Remove
  4. Fuel Pressure - Relieve (with HDS)
    1. Connect the HDS to the DLC

    2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    3. From the Function Test Menu of the HDS, select FUEL PUMP OFF, then start the engine, and let it idle until it stalls.

    NOTE: 

    • Do not allow the engine to idle above 1, 000 rpm or the PCM will continue to operate the fuel pump.
    • A Pending or Confirmed DTC may be set during this procedure. Check for DTCs, and clear them as needed

    4. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

  5. Fuel Pressure - Relieve (without HDS)

    1. Remove the fuel tank unit access panel (A).

    2. Disconnect the connector (B).

    3. Start the engine, and let it idle until it stalls.

    NOTE:  If any DTCs are stored, clear and ignore them.

    4. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    5. Reconnect the connector, and reinstall the fuel tank unit access panel.

  6. 12 Volt Battery Terminal - Disconnect
