ATF Replacement: Replacement
- How to read the torque specifications .
- Keep all foreign particles out of the transmission.
- Be careful not to burn yourself.
- Vehicle - Lift Set
- HDS DLC - Connect
- ATF - Drain
1. Remove the drain plug (A), and drain the ATF. 2. Install a new drain plug.
- ATF - Refill
1. Remove the level check plug (A).
With AWD
Without AWD
2. Refill the transmission with Honda ATF TYPE 3 into the level check hole (B) until the ATF overflows.
NOTE: Using the wrong type ATF can affect shift quality.Automatic Transmission Fluid Capacity: 3.3 L (3.5 US qt) at change 6.3-6.7 L (6.7-7.1 US qt) at overhaul 7.1-7.5 L (7.5-7.9 US qt) at overhaul for AWD 3. Temporarily install the old level plug.
- ATF Level - Check
With AWD Without AWD
1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode. 2. Enter the VSA maintenance mode
3. Start the engine.
4. Shift the transmission to the S position/mode.
5. Using the paddle shifters, run the vehicle in 1st gear, 2nd gear, 3rd gear, and 4th gear, waiting 10 seconds after shifting in to each gear. After shifting into 4th gear, wait 10 seconds, allow the wheels to slow down and slowly press the brakes.
NOTE:- Do not apply sudden or a strong brake pedal force when coming to a stop.
- Do not shift beyond 4th gear or transmission damage may occur.
6. Shift the transmission to the P position/mode, then raise the engine speed to around 2, 000 rpm for couple seconds to ensure that the torque converter is full of ATF.
7. Run the engine at idle speed until the ATF Temperature on the HDS data list reaches between 99-113 deg.F (37- 45 deg.C). If the temperature exceeds 113 deg.F (45 deg.C), turn the engine off, allow the transmission to cool down and turn the engine back on.
8. With the engine running, remove the level check plug (A), and make sure the ATF level is at the conditions described below.
NOTE:- If the ATF is pouring out, wait until the ATF starts dripping from the level check hole (B).
- If there is no ATF coming out, add Honda ATF TYPE 3 through the level check hole until the ATF overflows, then wait until the ATF starts dripping from the level check hole.
- When the ATF temperature is between 99-113 deg.F (37- 45 deg.C), the proper ATF level is about 6 mm (0.25 in) higher than the bottom of the level check hole.
- Improper ATF level will affect shift quality.
9. Immediately install a new level check plug.
10. Turn the engine off.
- Maintenance Minder - Reset
1. If the Maintenance Minder required to replace the ATF, reset the Maintenance Minder with the gauge (see "Resetting the Maintenance Minder") . If the Maintenance Minder did not require to replace the ATF, reset the Maintenance Minder with the HDS (see "Resetting the Individual Maintenance Items") .
