The canister change over valve is installed in the evaporative emission (EVAP) leak check module and used to seal up the EVAP passage during the EVAP leak check. The canister change over valve is normally opened (open to the atmosphere) and only closes (seals) during the EVAP leak check. If the return signal of the canister change over valve is close while the powertrain control module (PCM) is not outputting close signal to the canister change over valve, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.
