Idle Air Control Valve: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue and 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: The IAC valve may be damaged if installed with the cone (pintle) extended more than 1-1/8" (28 mm). Measure the distance that the valve is extended before installing a new valve. The distance from the idle air control valve motor housing to the end of the idle air control valve pintle should be less than 1-1/8" (28 mm). Manually compress the pintle until the extension is less than 1-1/8" (28 mm).
NOTE: Before installation, clean "O" ring sealing surface, pintle seat and air passage. If air passage has heavy deposits, remove throttle body for complete cleaning.
  1. Install the NEW "O" ring on the IAC valve. Install the IAC valve onto the throttle body. Install the IAC valve attaching screws. Tighten the screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. Connect the harness connector to the IAC valve. On Aurora 3.5L, install the EGR valve. On all models, the PCM will reset the IAC valve whenever the ignition switch is turned on, then off. Turn ignition on, with the engine off. Turn ignition off for 5 seconds. Start the engine and allow the engine to reach a normal operating temperature. Check for proper operation.
  3. Keeping the injector sight shield as level as possible, place the rear of the shield under the mounting bracket. Align and press the injector sight shield onto the mounting studs. Install the mounting nuts onto the mounting studs and tighten nuts.
