Disabling Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 GMC Canyon and 2005 Chevrolet Colorado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    IMPORTANT: Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zones  before disabling the SIR system.
  1. Turn the steering wheel until the vehicles wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition.
  3. Remove the key from the ignition.

    IMPORTANT: With the SIR fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.
  5. Remove the SIR fuse from the fuse block (1) located in the underhood fuse block.
  6. Remove the left door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Side Front Door in Doors.

  8. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) (3) from the side impact sensor yellow 2-way connector (5) located near the middle of the door.
  9. Disconnect the side impact sensor yellow 2-way connector (5) located near the middle of the door.

  11. Remove the trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Body Rear Corner - Lower (Crew Cab) or Trim Panel Replacement - Body Rear Corner - Lower (Regular Cab) or Trim Panel Replacement - Body Rear Corner - Lower (Extended Cab) for regular cab or Trim Panel Replacement - Lower Center Pillar for crew cab in Interior Trim. For extended cab remove the rear access door wiring harness grommet to access the connector.
  12. Remove the connector positive assurance (CPA) from the seat belt pretensioner - left connector.
  13. Disconnect the seat belt pretensioner - left connector from the vehicle harness connector.
  14. Remove the garnish molding. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar in Interior Trim.

  16. Disconnect the roof rail module connector (1) from the vehicle harness.
