Installation Procedure

  1. Clean the inner tie rod threads (2).
  2. Install the inner tie rod (3) to the rack (1).

    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  3. Position a torque wrench and the J-34028:  wrench on the inner tie rod housing (4). Use a wrench in order to hold the rack (3) while tightening the inner tie rod (5) to 88 N.m (65 lb ft).

  4. Use a hammer and a punch in order to stake the inner tie rod housing (2) at the notch (1).
  5. Install the steering gear boot. Refer to Steering Gear Boot Replacement .
  6. Measure and adjust the front toe. Refer to Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment .
