Transaxle Disassembly
- Remove torque converter. Using a dial indicator, measure input shaft end play. Remove transfer shaft cover/Measure transfer shaft end play. Record end play measurements for reassembly reference. Remove pulse generators (if equipped), manual control lever, and inhibitor switch.
- On KM175 transaxle, remove end clutch cover. Remove end clutch assembly. Remove thrust washer. Remove end clutch hub, thrust washer, and pullout end clutch shaft.
- On all transaxles, rotate transaxle assembly so converter housing is facing up. Remove converter housing. Remove oil pump bolts and install Pump Remover into pump removing holes. Remove oil pump adapter and gasket.
- Remove differential assembly, fiber thrust washer, and front clutch assembly. Remove metal race, needle bearing, and fiber thrust washer. Remove rear clutch assembly and bearing. Remove clutch hub, thrust washer, and bearing.
- Remove kickdown drum and band. Remove kickdown servo cover snap ring and cover. Remove kickdown servo snap ring (if equipped). Remove kickdown servo piston and spring.NOTE: If may be necessary to use Spring Compressor to remove kickdown servo snap ring.
- Remove anchor rod (inside transaxle case). Install Sun Gear Holder so that, when transaxle in placed upside down, sun gear assembly will stay in place. If sun gear holder is not in place, the planetary gear set may fall out.
- Turn transaxle so oil pan is up. Remove oil pan and gasket. Remove oil filter. Disconnect throttle control cable from cam on valve body (if equipped). Depress tabs and remove ELC connector from transaxle case (if equipped). Remove valve body retaining bolts, recording length and position while doing so.
- ) Remove valve body. Remove accumulator spring and piston (if equipped). Remove center support bolts. See Fig 1 . Turn transaxle with oil pump side up. Remove reverse sun gear holder. Using Handle and Center Support Remover, pull center support remover straight up.
- Remove reverse sun gear and forward sun gear as an assembly. Remove planetary carrier assembly, thrust bearing, and race. Remove idler shaft lock plate from side of case. On KM175 transaxle, remove bearing retainer and oil pipe on side of case.
- On all transaxles, loosen transfer idler shaft with Wrench Adapter and wrench. Remove transfer idler shaft, idler gear, bearing inner races, and spacer from case. Remove output flange bearing retainer, "O" ring, and snap ring.
- Remove annulus gear, output flange, transfer drive gear, and bearing as an assembly. Remove transfer shaft rear end snap ring. Use a drift to drive transfer shaft out. Remove transfer driven gear. Remove snap ring from transaxle case, tapered roller bearing, and races.
