Electronic Power Steering System: Description
Electronic Power Steering (EPS) system uses the same components as that of conventional power steering system. In addition, it has a angular velocity sensor located in steering column, a solenoid valve on power steering gear box, and a control unit in the left side of the trunk.
To control oil flow of steering gear box, a solenoid is provided and it functions by the current from control module which receives a signal from the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), and angular velocity sensor. The EPS performs conventional power steering function in case a fail has occurred in the system. The EPS electronically controls current to the solenoid of the by-pass valve, based on input sensor signals, to control the amount of hydraulic fluid in the power steering cylinder chamber. This will vary the steering effort versus hydraulic pressure according to vehicle speed. See Figure or Figure .
The Electronic Power Steering Control Module (EPSCM) is installed in left side of the trunk, for Tiburon. See Figure . For Sonata, the module is located underneath the radio inside center facia. See Figure .
