Engine And Transaxle Assembly: Removal

CAUTION:
  • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  • To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
NOTE:
  • Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.
  1. Remove the engine cover.
  2. Remove the air duct (A).

  3. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.
  4. Recovering refrigerant and remove the high & low pressure pipe. (Refer to HEATING, VENTILATION & AIR CONDITIONING )
  5. Remove the intake air hose and air cleaner assembly.
    1. Disconnect the AFS connector (A).
    2. Disconnect the breather hose (B) from air cleaner hose.
    3. Disconnect the ECM connector. (Refer to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM))
    4. Remove the intake air hose (C) and air cleaner upper cover (D).

    5. Remove the air cleaner lower cover (A).

  6. Remove front wheels.
  7. Remove under cover (A).

  8. Drain the engine coolant.

    Remove the radiator cap to speed draining.

  9. Remove the upper radiator hose and lower radiator hose (A).

  10. Remove transaxle oil cooler hose.
  11. Remove fuel hose (A) and PCSV (B) hose.

  12. Remove engine wiring.
    1. Disconnect RH oxygen sensor connector (A) and solenoid valve connector (B).

    2. Disconnect power steering oil pressure sensor connector (A).

    3. Disconnect RH injector connector (A) and ignition coil connector (B).

    4. Disconnect OCV connector (A) and knock sensor connector (B).

    5. Disconnect LH front oxygen sensor connector (A).

    6. Disconnect alternator connector (A).

    7. Disconnect LH ignition coil connector (A), injector connector (B), condenser connector (C) and ground (D), and remove wiring harness protector (E).

    8. Disconnect LH CMPS (A) and oil pressure switch connector (B).

    9. Disconnect PCSV connector (A) and MAP sensor connector (B).

    10. Disconnect RH CMPS (A) and OTS connector (B).

    11. Disconnect ETC connector (A) and knock sensor connector (B).

    12. Disconnect WTS connector (A).

    13. Disconnect LH rear oxygen sensor connector (A) and CPS connector (B).

  13. Disconnect the transaxle wire harness connector and remove the transaxle control cable. (Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE (A5HF1) -- AZERA )
  14. Disconnect EPS connector.

  15. Remove heater hose (A).

  16. Remove brake vacuum hose (A).

  17. Remove power steering pump hose (A).

  18. Remove A/C compressor hose.
  19. Drain transaxle oil.
  20. Remove lower arm ball joint. (Refer to FRONT HUB / KNUCKLE )
  21. Remove tie rod end ball joint. (Refer to FRONT HUB / KNUCKLE )
  22. Remove stabilizer link. (Refer to FRONT STABILIZER BAR )
  23. After removing a split pin and nut from the steering bar tie rod, disconnect it. (Refer to POWER STEERING GEAR BOX )
  24. Remove power steering return hose (A) and drain power steering oil.

  25. Remove front roll stopper mounting bolt.
  26. Remove rear roll stopper mounting bolt.
  27. Remove steering u-joint mounting bolt. (Refer to STEERING COLUMN AND SHAFT )
  28. Remove front exhaust pipe (A).

  29. Supporting the cross member (A) with a jack, remove the stay with the mounting bolts.

    Tightening torque:

    137.3~156.9 Nm (14.0~16.0 kgf.m, 101.3~115.7 lb-ft)

  30. Remove drive shaft from transaxle. (Refer to FRONT AXLE )
  31. Install jack for supporting engine and transaxle assembly.
  32. Disconnect the ground cable (A) from the engine mounting bracket.

  33. Remove the engine mounting bracket (A).

  34. Remove the transaxle mounting bracket (A).

  35. Remove the engine and transaxle assembly by lifting vehicle.
    NOTE: When remove the engine and transaxle assembly, be careful not to damage any surrounding parts or body components.
