SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Raise the vehicle on a lift and remove the right front tire and wheel assembly.
    G07490344
  2. Remove the lower engine shield from the wheel well area to expose the A/C compressor/drive belt area, as shown in the photo.
    G07490345
  3. Use SST number 09977-29000 to hold the disc + hub assembly.
    G07490346
    G07512244
  4. Using hand tools, carefully remove the A/C compressors original disc + hub assembly.
CAUTION: Do NOT use power tools when removing or installing the disc + hub assembly bolt! The bolt may easily be broken if not properly removed or reinstalled.
    G07490347
  5. Remove the disc + hub assembly by sliding it off the compressor shaft. (No special tool or puller is required.) Save the adjustment washer for later use.
NOTE: An adjustment washer that provides proper disc + hub to drive pulley clearance may stick to the end of the compressor shaft, stay inside the original hub assembly, or fall to the floor!
Take special care not to lose this washer.
    G07490348
  6. Remove the pulley assembly retainer using a snap ring tool.
  7. Remove the pulley assembly. (No special tool or puller is required.)
    G07490349
  8. Remove the field coil assembly retainer using a snap ring tool.
    G07490350
  9. Separate the field coil assembly from the main compressor assembly.
  10. Unfasten the field coil wiring mounting screw and then disconnect the field coil connector and remove it from A/C compressor.
    G07490351
  11. Assemble the field coil assembly and pulley assembly in the reverse order of disassembly.
NOTE: When assembling the field coil to the compressor assembly, be sure to align the index tab of the field coil with the index grooves of the compressor assembly for proper fit.
    G07490352
  12. Transfer the original disc + hub clearance adjustment washer to the disc + hub assembly that will be installed.
CAUTION: Failure to install this adjustment washer between the disc + hub assembly and the pulley assembly will cause improper operation and A/C system damage.
    G07490353
  13. Install the disc + hub assembly.
    • Lightly tighten the assembly bolt using hand tools and SST 09977-29000.
    • Finish tightening using a torque wrench set to 7.2~10.8 lb-ft (86.4 to 129.6 lb-in).
CAUTION: Do NOT use power tools when installing the disc + hub assembly bolt! The bolt may easily be broken if not properly tightened to specification.

  14. Verify repair.
    1. Start the engine with the A/C off.
      • Check that the newly installed disc + hub assembly does not rub or drag on the compressor pulley.
      • The disc + hub should NOT turn with A/C off.  If disc + hub turns with A/C off, recheck your work.
    2. Turn On the A/C and check that the disc + hub assembly engages the compressor pulley without slipping.
      • If slipping occurs, recheck your work
    3. Verify that the original reason for the repair work has been corrected.
    4. Reinstall the engine shield and wheel assembly.
      • Tighten engine shield fasteners to 5.8~8.7 lb-ft.
      • Torque wheel nuts to 65.1 ~ 79.5 lb-ft.
